Similar LAT article reports Brown leads his closest GOP rival, Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, by 53-17!
Things are going SO much better for Californians since we deported all our Republicans to Texas
good for him. BTW, I didn't realize he had announced he would run again. I remember the lead his dad had over Reagan in 66. It is important to remember as socially liberal as Brown is, he is inclined to lean right on fiscal issues. This has nothing to do with Republican leaving Ca or maybe it does. Good for them.

The result of the effects of these two forces -- Brown's sliding popularity and Reagan's strong thrust -- has been a dramatic widening of Reagan's lead since the primary. In mid-May, three weeks before the primary, Reagan led Brown in a trial heat measurement by only three percentage points. Today e his lead is 15 points.

You're right, it has nothing to do with Republicans leaving the state, but nearly everything to do with 1) Republicans losing seats in the legislature such that they don't have the numbers to block budgets anymore and 2) recent changes in the law that doesn't require a supermajority to pass a budget. Previously, the state had to resort to a lot of crazy accounting tricks in order to plug the gap in a budget due to partisan gridlock.
Jerry Brown tends to have frugality in his habits - remember his rather unfurnished apartment and his 1974 Plymouth back in his first stint as governor, so I'm not really surprised.
California, the golden state, has been through some tough times, but things are looking up. With an unemployment rate of 8.3 pct. it ranks 47 out of 51, and appears to be rapidly moving upward. Unemployment Rates for States
