Environmentalists and other opponents of the Keystone XL Pipeline are ramping
up their opposition to the project following the release Friday of a
largely favorable State Department report -- vowing to hold vigils, jump
into the November elections and even perform acts of civil
disobedience.
Are we talking acts of terrorism here???? You'd think this country's never drilled for oil or anything!!!
I don't know this country anymore..........This will put some folks back to work.......Truckers will be transporting parts........diners will be filled with workers for lunch along this stretch.......granny's heating bill will go down.........

You really don't know the difference between a civil disobedience and terrorism? Maybe I've been giving public education way too much credit.
I'm a liberal Democrat and I support the keystone pipeline being competed. That oil is going to go to market anyway, we might as well use a pipeline to transport it instead of using trains and trucks to do it. I think using the pipeline will reduce greenhouse emissions compared to transporting the oil by train and truck.

Texas-based Valero Energy is one company that's increasingly relying on rail. It signed on to use the Keystone XL pipeline several years ago to ship heavy Canadian crude to its terminals on the Gulf Coast.
But spokesman Bill Day says given the long delay to build pipeline, Valero began buying rail cars and reworking some of its refineries to bring in trains. Day says Valero likes having alternatives.
"We like getting oil from different sources. If we can bring it in by ship and by pipeline and by rail, and even by truck in some instances, that gives us more flexibility," he says. "The more options we have, the better off we are."
Day says given the amount of oil being produced these days, even if construction of the Keystone pipeline went ahead tomorrow, Valero would continue to use rail.

And one of the most overlooked benefits, increased safety, because transporting oil by rail is very dangerous, as we have already seen in the recent derailments.

While it would reduce emissions, trains can move, on average, 1 ton of material nearly 485 miles on one gallon of diesel. That's pretty dang efficient.
