Saw this piece in the USATODAY, and i couldn't be happier. Nothing better than to see this little piece of misguided policy fail.

Just don't see why this president and Congress won't take this lame horse out and shoot it.

The hypocrisy is what REALLY cracks me up:

Quote:
While the U.S. touts the embargo as a way to starve the Castro government of funding it needs to survive, and the international community routinely criticizes America for it, U.S. companies exported more than $350 million in goods to the island last year. Four years ago, it was more than $700 million
Nice. U.S. companies and the Cuban community themselves flout the whole damn thing...while demanding that our stupid politicians keep the pressure on.

Oh well....Voices: Cuba embargo? What Cuba embargo?

The Berlin wall came down in 1991, so should have the trade embargo.

Cuba will get raped by Americans when it opens up and communism is gone. It'll be a land grab with Americans claiming farmland, beach front property, hotels and other buildings that were taken in 1959 and since improved.

Some has improved and some has deteriorated. Mixed bag.

But the island overall is in tough shape.

I support ending the embargo. If anything, the embargo merely cements the Castros' hold on power. It keeps the Cuban people poor, isolated, and dependent on the Communist government (and Canadian tourists). By opening up trade with Cuba, it would encourage the Cuban government to loosen restrictions on business and eventually restrictions on individual rights as well.

As a American of Cuban descent I can tell you that the only people who are keeping the embargo going are right wing Republicans here in Miami who have such a hate for Castro that they don't realize the damage they have done to their loved ones back home.
It's funny how we trade with other Communist nations such as China & Russia though.

You have forgotten when Kennedy faced the missiles aimed at us from Cuba.

What does Cuba even make? Cigars? I don't smoke. When they finally reveal Castro has kicked the bucket a couple years back, then they'll make it a thriving gambling/resort destination. Until then, they can live ALA Gilligan's island with coconut TVs and pedal powered bamboo cars.

Russia isn't Communist anymore and China is Communist in name only (actually it is closer to watered down fascism).

China is actually less socialist and more free because of trade. China is still illiberal as hell, but compared to even 20 years ago, it is a lot better.

That was over 50 years ago and those were Soviet missiles based in Cuba, not Cuban missiles.

Cuba also produces sugar, rum, and has some of the largest nickel deposits in the world. Besides, it is not just what Cuba can sell to the US, but what the US can sell to Cuba.
