Personally I don't feel one iota of sympathy for any drug addict other than those born addicted due to their mother's bad choices. You use a drug like Heroine, crack, cocaine or Meth you absolutely deserve your fate.

I used to hand-out Ambien's to old people like they were tic-tacs until one day we found out that Ambien is really bad for the elderly. Some docs swtiched to different sleep aids, gave a low dose of a benzo like Clonazepam (which also leads to dependence and can cause seizures if the pt is suddenly cut off from their supply), or gave nothing at all. A teaspoon of MJ oil would have the same effect as any of those drugs but without the potential for bad side effects or dangerous withdrawal but NO big pharma doesn't want that.

I don't understand the attraction to dancing with BigPharma, either. Most of their s**t is every bit as bad as illegal drugs.

It is not a new thing, it is just that it isn't blasted in the media as much as poor black drug users have been historically.

I live in a neighborhood known as a place to score heroine and most of the unknown, nice cars I see riding around here have white folks in them with tags from counties that is not the one I live in.

Though it is an old problem for suburban whites, it actually has been on the rise in some areas whereas drug use in inner cities has gone down pretty substantially from the 1990s so it is odd that the focus of drugs and crime in particular is still focused so much on black people in the inner city when the primary abusers of drugs in this country are suburban whites.

I am black but I thought the same thing. I graduated in 1997 and the crack epidemic dominated most of my early childhood. I grew up in an integrated city though and knew that all crackheads weren't black. My dad was a crack head and sold crack to support his habit (he still is one of the most functioning addicts I have ever seen lol, he sold crack to buy crack and had 3 jobs while he was actively addicted!) but got off drugs in the early 90s and has been clean for over 20 years now but most of the people he sold drugs to were white people.

When I moved here to Atlanta I was shocked to find so many white people using heroine and crack. I was shocked that people still did crack!! Doubly shocked that people did heroine. Crack is so 80s to me and heroine so 70s to me, but it seems like more and more people especially here use heroine a lot.

Heroin is getting more attention now because more white kids/young adults are dying of overdose. Over time, heroin purity has substantially increased in many geographic areas. Moderation is a challenge for most addicts.
