actually sibel Edmonds stated that the cia/fbi (she was a translator for the fbi) was lacking in its ability to get any/all info translated, and that there was stacks of stuff to be translated, and that with all the budget cuts of the 90's its ability was diminished

Lost In Translation
FBI Translator Sibel Edmonds Grants First Interview To Ed Bradley

This is the story of hundreds, if not thousands, of foreign language documents that the FBI neglected to translate before and after the Sept. 11 attacks -- documents that detailed what the FBI heard on wiretaps and learned during interrogations of suspected terrorists.

Sibel Edmonds, a translator who worked at the FBI's language division, says the documents weren't translated because the division was riddled with incompetence, lack of funding and corruption.

Edmonds was fired after reporting her concerns to FBI officials. She told her story behind closed doors to investigators in Congress and to the Justice Department. Most recently, she spoke with the commission investigating the Sept. 11 attacks.

She first told Correspondent Ed Bradley her story a year after Sept. 11.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Because she is fluent in Turkish and other Middle Eastern languages, Edmonds, a Turkish-American, was hired by the FBI soon after Sept. 11 and given top-secret security clearance to translate some of the reams of documents seized by FBI agents who have been rounding up suspected terrorists across the United States and abroad.

Edmonds says that to her amazement, from the day she started the job, she was told repeatedly by one of her supervisors that there was no urgency,- that she should take longer to translate documents so that the department would appear overworked and understaffed. That way, it would receive a larger budget for the next year.
We were told by our supervisors that this was the great opportunity for asking for increased budget and asking for more translators,” says Edmonds. “And in order to do that, don't do the work and let the documents pile up so we can show it and say that we need more translators and expand the department.”

hmmm incompetence in the government....and they want government health care....scary

For someone with a name like "Historian Dude", I would expect you to know more about history and not just stick with name calling. How can you be so sure that Osama Bin Laden was not a CIA asset?

Some circumstantial evidence is very strong, as when you find a Laden in the Bin.

I mean there are countless stories in the mainstream news about this-I'm not sure why they are denying it. The CIA has always been covert and has funded and armed many terrorist groups and dictators that quickly turned into enemies-"Historian Dude" probably denies this simple fact as well.

They can say it was all "Government incompetance" and crazy coincidences but at some point critical thinking comes into play that there is more to the story on who funded the 9/11 terrorist attacks and how much knowledge was available to NSA/CIA/FBI as well as the administration in office.

Nothing has ever been solved by covering up past mistakes.

and all you can do is believe a MYTH that obl was cia

obl hated the usa, and refused any help from the usa

In the 1980s, bin Laden disdained America for its alliances with Israel and moderate Muslim states, but it was the Gulf crisis that crystallized his hatred. When Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, bin Laden wanted Arab veterans of the Afghan war to help the Saudi army defend Saudi Arabia. He saw the arrival of American troops to confront Saddam—and the continued U.S. military presence in the Gulf after the war—as a violation of the sanctity of Muslim territory.

Please explain in great detail why anyone on this forum should take the word of "working class hero" or "historian dude" over the former British Foreign Secretary (and many others with credentials including countless authors, journalists and statesmen)

Former British Foreign secretary, Robin Cook said:

"Bin Laden was, though, a product of a monumental miscalculation by western security agencies. Throughout the 80s he was armed by the CIA and funded by the Saudis to wage jihad against the Russian occupation of Afghanistan."

Sleeping With the Devil: How U.S. and Saudi Backing of Al Qaeda Led to 9/11 Washington's Blog

INTERVIEW WITH DR ZBIGNIEW BRZEZINSKI-(13/6/97)

MSNBC reported in 1998:
As his unclassified CIA biography states, bin Laden left Saudi Arabia to fight the Soviet army in Afghanistan after Moscow’s invasion in 1979. By 1984, he was running a front organization known as Maktab al-Khidamar – the MAK – which funneled money, arms and fighters from the outside world into the Afghan war.
What the CIA bio conveniently fails to specify (in its unclassified form, at least) is that the MAK was nurtured by Pakistan’s state security services, the Inter-Services Intelligence agency, or ISI, the CIA’s primary conduit for conducting the covert war against Moscow’s occupation.

The CIA, concerned about the factionalism of Afghanistan … found that Arab zealots who flocked to aid the Afghans were easier to “read” than the rivalry-ridden natives. While the Arab volunteers might well prove troublesome later, the agency reasoned, they at least were one-dimensionally anti-Soviet for now. So bin Laden, along with a small group of Islamic militants from Egypt, Pakistan, Lebanon, Syria and Palestinian refugee camps all over the Middle East, became the “reliable” partners of the CIA in its war against Moscow.

By the way, The CIA funded these terrorists 6 MONTHS BEFORE the Russians invaded Afghanistan.
