When reams of liberals fled the Democrat party while Clinton was dragging it to the left through the various stains on the Oval Office carpet, many of them joined the Republican party, giving birth to the misleading term "neocon".
The Republicans shortly shed the title "Conservative" as they hiked spending, created new entitlements, and generally acted more and more like Democrats. They retained a few conservative characteristics for a while as they cut taxes and let the so-called "Assault Weapons" ban die, but they mostly became a lot more liberal than JFK ever was.

And all this during the administration of our first black president. The level of hypocrisy is astronomical.
This is a stupid point. Jewish people are largely Democrats, and how are they doing?
If voting for Democrats has caused those statistics for black Americans, then voting for Democrats also caused the statistics for Jewish Americans.
Of course this is an incredibly stupid point that no one would say oh Jewish people have these demographic statistics based on voting for mostly Democrats.
The only reason this is done to black people is because of the racial narrative that seeks to pathologize black people.
Repeating something idiotic does not somehow make it smart.

Those particular Democrats WERE conservative Southerners. Democrats now are generally not.
It takes a very special kind of an idiot to believe that ideologically liberal people voted against civil rights.
The name of the political party really means nothing. Political ideology is the constant measure over time, and the people who vote against social and other changes anywhere at any time in the world are by definition "conservatives." That was true in the past, is true today, and will be true in the future, regardless of whether those people have a D, R, or whatever else after their name.

Yes. Democrats used to be the Conservative Party, and the Republicans were the progressives. This is all ancient history.
Meanwhile, the people (including some in this very forum!) who spit on the grave of Republican President Abraham Lincoln for his usurpation of "states' rights" are, of course, conservative Republicans.
The OP contends that because a greater percentage of republicans 60 YEARS AGO voted in favor of the civil rights acts, that the same would happen today, and that just is not so.
Those particular Democrats WERE conservative Southerners. .
