Follow the cash flow. The military pays taxes on their income which comes from taxes. Ultimately, there are only 86 million private sector workers paying into the system.
Missed the entire point. 86m cannot continue to subsidize 148m people. Liberals love freebies and ObamaCare is a perfect example.
Did you notice you have the Republican base in those numbers. They excluded the veterans for some reason but add those in and Medicare, Medicaid for Seniors, and SS and you are talking about the 60% who put Republicans in the majority in 2010. Thats where most of your spending is. As Romney found out the 47% is us.
I think you're not getting it. There are 86 million private sector employees paying into a system where 148 million take out. That is not sustainable.
And you think taxing a private sector full time employee is the only income for a government? And you also think all of the 148 million are just taking? No, you are not getting any of it.

It's been close to that for decades, and was a worse ratio in the decades before the 1980's. The 86/148 numbers above are suspect as their ratio is 58% when the real 2011 Labor Participation Rate was 64%. What Labor Participation rate would the right strive for?

The US Labor Participation rate compares favorably with other nations. Counties that are significantly higher are mainly 3rd world countries where the whole family works or you die.
"Uhmmmm we have for decades now...so obviously we can..."
Even more interesting is that our GDP is continuing to grow....year after year. In fact looking at the graph we were at this point in about 1987......and since then our GDP has DOUBLED. Think about that-not only can we, but historically we have twice as much money to do so with.
I am going by your own words, and no, 81% of government revenue is not from full time private sector employees.
81% of federal revenues is from personal income tax and social security taxes. People who are paid by taxes, i.e. public employees on a net basis don't fund our government. 100% of their income comes from tax payers.
So are there 148 million extra jobs to be filled in the US?
Some of them are kids.
Some of them are productive citizens that happen to live in a household with another person counted as a "taker."
The amount they are "taking" is not equivalent to the amount the private sector makers are "making." If 148 million get an average of $2400 per year in food stamps, and 86 million people are earning an average of $40,000 per year in income, those things are not equal.
