So because YOU can't do it you think it's some kind of super human trick? Sorry, but anyone with a small amount of practice can double tap any shotgun. Just because you're limited doesn't mean everyone else is.
Not necessarily, there is a huge range of loads you can fire from a shotgun, pretty much all of them lethal to a criminal. You know maybe you should actually get out and try shooting before commenting about what is possible or not.
I've never shot a shotgun, probably never would.
I was looking at this YouTube video and some states such as Pennsylvania don't have "Castle Laws", so in states with no such law you can't shoot someone who breaks into your house just because they're there and you feel they shouldn't be.

If someone breaks into your house, do they deserve death for it? Even if they're not even armed? There's been several stories in the news about teenagers who broke into old men's homes and were slain unnecessarily after the threat was neutralized and the general consensus was that the men were heroes for protecting their stuff.
Now I'm sure being burgled is traumatic, but is it really a greater evil than killing an intruder? Especially if there was no reason to do so aside from revenge? If so why not treat it the same as murder if apparently it's equally serious and make it a capital crime you can be executed for?
In Oregon we have the Castle rule, however, that doesn't give you the right to kill someone for entering your home. If you feel your life and the lives of your family are in jeopardy then you can act with the needed force to protect your family. In my house that would be a .45 cal pistol or a shotgun, depends on which one I can get to first. If the person is unarmed, then I would just hold him until the police showed up.

By entering unlawfully you have already shown a propensity to break the law and a reasonable person would assume a likeliness to do harm to its occupants. This is even codified in California, saying someone breaking into an home is considered a threat and self defense, up to and including, killing the intruder is warranted.
While a 12 gauge is nice (the barrel of it looks like a railroad tunnel when it is pointed at you), it isn't really necessary.
I had a very nice Magnum 12 gauge with both the 18 and 28 inch barrels. I didn't like it.
My 20 gauge with 18 inch barrel is lighter, less recoil, holds just as many shells, and will do the job just fine if the necessity ever arises for it to be used.
Oh, and YES, I certainly CAN put 2 shots down range (double tap) with no problems.
I have the 28 inch barrel for the 20 gauge also.

If it's dark, wouldn't you only know if they were armed once they began to shoot?
I'm not much of a fan of "the bad guy gets the advantage and benefit of the doubt" laws in regards to home invasion.
One shop from a 12 Gage Pump is the deterrent for would be criminals wanting your stuff and putting love ones at risk,
I prefer to use a PTR-91 in 7.62x51 with a 20 round magazine in my home.
