Devices like the smart phone - and social media all-round - will make for a very anti-social, pessimistic, and introverted generation of Americans leading our country, starting in about ten years.

I live on an east coast beach now. The views are stunningly spectacular. It never fails... I watch people walking the beach during a breathtaking sunrise, and what are they doing? Yep... eyes glued to their smart phones.
I see scenes like that pic
all the time....
If they're not in front.of their laptops,
it's their stupid phones, lol
And it never gonna go back
to how it used to be.
People don't know how to unplug.....
Technology has seriously changed
the way people interact.

I don't disagree with the premise of this thread. But to put it in perspective, I remember riding the elevated train home from downtown Chicago every day--this this was about 17 years ago, long before the advent of smart phones and social media--and witnessing the most astonishing sunset every evening and realizing I was the only one in the train who even noticed it. Everyone was focused on reading or dozing or listening to music on their Walkmans. It made me want to scream, "Look up, people! Look at the natural beauty around you!" No one ever did.
I guess I'm saying that there are people who notice those things and people who don't, and it seems the former have always been in the minority in modern civilization. I don't doubt that social media is going to exacerbate that.
