Judge tells father if he doesn't attend the child custody case on time, he'll not only loose custody of his daughter, the daughter would be given back to the ex-wife (whom CPS took the daughter from for her safety), and an order for his arrest would be given. Normally, this isn't a bad thing. However in this case, the father is a US Navy sailor deployed on a submarine and the judge was aware of this when she issued her order and didn't care.

What I find most troubling is that the judge wants to return the child to the custody of the mother after CPS had taken the child away from her for cause. Did CPS later determine that whatever charges led to that were unwarranted?
Take that out of the equation, and you have a custody dispute where Dad has the child but is away for months at a time, so the court decides being with Mom instead of Step-Mom is in the child's best interest. Since Dad and Step-Mom refuse to turn the child over to Mom, the judge uses the only power she has (arrest) to get them moving. Surely the judge knows that Dad can't get leave from a nuclear sub to attend a hearing, so the threat of arrest is rather silly.
None of that proves that the judge isn't an America-hating feminazi, but the case seems more complicated than that.
So this guy who has custody of his daughter just leaves her with an unrelated woman?
If it's a long time friend, a long term relationship girlfriend or wife, or the like, what does it matter? Aren't the kids better off there than with the mom until their father returns home?

I'm not sure. I don't have kids, nor do I know custody law.
Let's say I had a kid with a women, we weren't together, and I got custody. Am I allowed to leave the US for months and months and leave my kid with my boyfriend?

They are YOUR kids, you can do anything you want to regarding that if you have custody.
