1. If the intent of capital punishment is vengence, it goes against every principle that religion and justice is supposed to truly stand for. We put down rabid dogs and lame horses out of mercy. Are we granting the capital offender mercy or meting out punishment? Methinks the answer is the former and not the latter.
2. It costs more to put someone to death than it does to give them life in prison.
3. It's not a detererent to capital crime.
4. It is often applied capriciously and unevenly
5. It's final. No "do-overs" if a mistake is made and it can be argued the mistakes HAVE been made given the number of people released from death row who were exonerated. Putting even one innocent person to death is one too many.

This is a issue I struggle with but the christian in me says it is wrong to take another persons life even if that person is the most vile monster on earth. Add this with the post above and I have to vote no.
