LOL, that link you posted included suicides and accidents, and I would bet it also includes justifiable shootings, even by police. Those instances don't count as "gun violence"
Nice try.
Quote:
Suicide is the leading cause of gun-related deaths across the nation in recent
years. Of the 32,351 firearm deaths in 2011, nearly 20,000 were suicides. In all
but one state with the most gun-related deaths, suicide accounted for the
majority of fatalities

The overwhelming majority of the gun violence is taking place in areas with high concentrations of poverty. We do not have a gun problem in this country, we have a problem with poverty.
You can ban all guns, and we will still have a lot of violent crime. Until we address the lack of economic opportunity for the permanent underclass, there will be elevated levels of crime, and violence in the areas with concentrations of poverty.

Exactly.
People have a right to self defense - they have a right to a gun.
Now, sure, in cases of certified mental illnesses, felonies, etc. people end up waiving that right (at least until the situation is rectified, if possible), but it's not about the gun... it is about the people who are using them.
Gun violence's strongest link is to poverty, not gun laws. Plenty of cities have strong gun laws and lots of poverty - and violence. Plenty of other places have weak guns laws, poverty, and violence. And then there are plenty of places without much of any violence... but they are also lacking much in the way of poverty.
Giving a man a gun doesn't turn him into a criminal. Taking away his future and reducing him to a state where violence seems like the only way to survive WILL turn him to that path... and THEN he gets a gun and the violence begins...

The World Health Organization defines Violence as "the intentional use of physical force or power, threatened or actual, against oneself, another person, or against a group or community, which either results in or has a high likelihood of resulting in injury, death, psychological harm, maldevelopment, or deprivation,

The only way that those suicides should be in gun related stats, is if you can prove that those people who committed suicide would still be alive if there were no guns....
Do you have the ability to understand that?
