"Would you do away with the Tea Party if you could?"

Which Tea Party? You've got several national ones and a bunch of small local ones. They seem to split on the issues just like everybody else. And how would we do it? Firing squad, send them to Honduras?

For the sake of this poll, assume it is all tea parties. Consider it like parties that call themselves "communist" - to insiders, they may seem very different and unique from one another, but to those who are on the outside, they're all pretty much equally kooky.

The more parties to challenge the establishment the better.

They have a right to organize, run candidates, promote ideas, etc. The IRS does not have the right to target them.

However, I am not a fan. I think they are causing big problems for the Republican Party. I agree with them on most issues, at least theoretically, but I am far more open to compromise and working together and don't like the kookiness.

I wouldn't do away with it. I don't agree with them but that doesn't mean I want to do away with them anymore than they should want to do away with any political affiliation I'm with. We can't all agree on the same thing and fringe groups have their place and voice in America. If a group becomes obnoxious enough then they will probably go away on their own if people decide to leave it.

If everyone adhered to the Tea Party ideals this country would be amazing. They are on the correct path all the way. Those that don't agree with their principals are either ignorant, misinformed, or hate America like comrade obama does..
A vote for obama is a vote for communism....

Sigh ... At the risk of repeating myself ... AGAIN! ...

The "tea party" is NOT a political party.

It is a populist movement made up of common sense Americans angry with the politics of the Washington establishment and business as usual. You know, bail out those big banks and big insurance companies and Wall Street firms with taxpayer money? Remember? You do know that TARP was designed to make Goldman Sachs whole in all of their risky loans to companies like AIG, dont you? Look it up! Recall that Hank Paulson was a former CEO of Goldman.

Some people have fallen for the liberal left propaganda characterizing tea party people as racists, homophobes, and misogynists, thanks to the liberal left hate machine and their allies in the left wing media. Those people need to do some thinking about where this nation is going.

The premise of this poll seems to be that there is such a thing as a political party called The Tea Party, and then asking if it should be eliminated. How about the Greens? How about the American Independence Party? How about the Libertarian Party? How about the Socialist Party. How about the Communist Party? All of the aforementioned are registered political parties. Should THEY be eliminated?

Lastly, last time I looked, the First Amendment guaranteed the right of the citizens to petition the government for redress of grievances. I wonder how many people know that and know what it means? Maybe too many people are too stuck on the myth that the Two Party System is a Good Thing.

No we need the tea party and the great populist movement that says ENOUGH to business as usual in Washington, that says ENOUGH of crony capitalism, and ENOUGH giveaways to the wealthy and the privileged at the expense of poor and working people.

What's wrong with that?

It's obvious you're hateful and misinformed as well.

It's the left playbook to portray members of the TEA party and ignorant Opies from Oklahoma their feelingis if they just keep repeating the mantra somehow it will become true.

Tea Partiers Are Fairly Mainstream in Their Demographics Skew right politically, but have typical profile by age, education, and employment
by Lydia Saad
April 5, 2010

PRINCETON, NJ -- Tea Party supporters skew right politically; but demographically, they are generally representative of the public at large. That's the finding of a USA Today/Gallup poll conducted March 26-28, in which 28% of U.S. adults call themselves supporters of the Tea Party movement.

Crazy? Stupid? Tea Party Supporters Are Neither

They're the kooks, the wing nuts, the fringe of American politics -- a tiny but vocal and overexposed remnant of the tattered quilt of conservatism. This is how too many progressives dismiss the Tea Party movement.

They're destined for irrelevance, we tell ourselves -- too crazy to be useful to the Republican Party, so why pay attention? They're all named Billy Bob, they can't spell "socialism," they're uneducated and stupid, and they live far from you and me.

Except they don't.
Poll Finds Tea Party Backers Wealthier and More Educated
By KATE ZERNIKE and MEGAN THEE-BRENAN
Published: April 14, 2010

Quote:
Tea Party supporters are wealthier and more well-educated than the general public, and are no more or less afraid of falling into a lower socioeconomic class, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

The 18 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Tea Party supporters tend to be Republican, white, male, married and older than 45.
So where are all these ignorant okies located? The answer might surprise you.
