McCain accomplished a twofer when he nominated Palin as hie VP
1. He destroyed his presidential ambitions.
2. He destroyed Palin's political career.
If left to her own devices as Alaskan governor she would have served out her term and perhaps even elected to a second term. She was not ready for the national media spotlight and she folded under the pressure. It had nothing to do with being a Democrat or Republican but your own mental preparation for the challenge. When a reporter asks you what newspapers and magazines you like to read, it should not be terribly difficult to give an answer.
Palin did well financially as a result of the VP nomination and if making money were her goal in accepting the VP nomination she succeeded.
If her goal was furtherance of her political career, her acceptance of the VP nomination was an unmitigated failure.
If a female Democrat had ran who had the education and political experience that Palin had, the media would have treated it much differently. That would have influenced many people. The womens rights groups would have backed her. She would have been backed by the Hollywood elites. She would have been pushed to stardom by the media.
We would have heard stories about how she was a "supermom". She would have been admired by most liberals as a role model. The media would have glossed over the areas where she lacks experience (they've done this before). Her views and voting records would have been glossed over unless they would directly help her cause. She would have been successfully portrayed as the common person taking on corrupt government and winning. There would have been stories of how her family had reversed the conventional roles of parenthood with her husband caring for the kids while she was away---setting an example for other women to pursue their dreams.
What do you think?
I think it's a stretch.
Focusing just on the education aspect, what is it about her educational experience that would (should) have made her appealing?
OK, so she won't be counting on your vote if she ever runs for office again.
She will never make another serious run for anything. Once in a while she'll make some 'I may run' noises, the gullible will send her money, and then she'll saying nothing else about a run.
