I have some self-employment skills selling online, and existing inventory sufficient to live on for 6 months or so. But I have no room to keep my inventory here, nor the sane living environment I need to be most productive so selling is much more tedious, cumbersome, and slow than it should be. If I had 400 sq ft of living space and a sane living environment, I believe I could make $50K a year.
Can't you rent a room directly from a landlord? That's what I would do anyway. $500/month would get you a place in Chicago with 2 other roommates.
theoretically yes, but i live on the economic margin and can't come up with the up front costs of moving into a place, which are more than just the first moth's rent. my credit was trashed 12 years ago with an abrupt and extended total loss of income, and all those old debts are bought and sold and re-aged so my credit is indefinitely in the tank (NO new or original credit activity in 12 years) so I live in the grey market of renting rooms on CL from people who are not professional landlords or brokers....which is how I end up in trashy living environments.

That's funny! Oh, I'm sorry... you actually believe that!

And if I had pre-knowledge of this week's winning lottery numbers, I believe I'd be a kajillionaire. Sorta gives us both something to work towards, eh? In the meantime, I'm not giving up my day job just yet. And you're free to continue (based on your past posts) doing nothing to better your situation!
Off-topic - have you seen that series "Tiny House Nation"?

Anything older than 7.5 years can't be reported. I'm not sure about your judgements though.

Yes in my opinion they are and in societies that value human rights, workers are entitled to a living wage. Because people ought to be treated like human beings not like pack animals or subhumans. That's what the minimum wage is supposed to provide, but is often much too low in most areas.
I'm renting a room for $500 a month now here in Staten island I.actually got lucky considering some of the apts out here. I live with three other people. Now with that being said this free market garbage is just that.
The people arguing that folks shouldn't make a living wage, are also the same people that will be all shocked when the people not making a living wage while working hard get upset about it.

??? I actually have ensconced myself in an online niche where imperfect information allows me to use my superior knowledge of this niche to profitably buy and flip items. I built my inventory from nothing to 3,000 items ($10K retail) in 10 years. With some actual cash on hand I could buy larger lots and collections and make even more money. What I have would have little value and be very difficult to sell before the internet and before eBay and Amazon, they have created a global market where only tiny local markets previously existed. There is no current price guide and my database is 10 times larger than the last price guide which was released in the '90s.
Haven't seen Tiny House Nation but I'm familiar with the concept.
