Free Speech means that an individual has the right to hold and express an opinion publicly without fear of retribution by the government. Other than that stipulation, it has nothing to do with the government itself.
California has done the correct thing by eliminating the sale of artifacts which carry a symbol that has become a symbol of racial hatred, regardless of what the white good-ol'-boys want you to believe about 'heritage". Ask a Black person what they think about the Black heritage during the Civil War. Theirs was a bit different than the romantic notions some whites have about being plantation owners.
One thing that I've learned is that you cannot assume that everyone in these threads has gone to school in the U.S. or has read the constitution. It's evident that based on WhipperSnapper 88's post, she is not from around here and thus does not fully understand what the constitution means by "free speech".

True. Free Speech does not mean that you have the right to say anything you want without opposition from your peers. They dwell on the "Freedom" part while completely ignoring the "Responsibility" part that must always necessarily accompany it.
Oh really?? It couldn't be that the North had over twice the population to draw fighting men , and all of the manufacturing plants and such to get all the supplies that they needed? The South had nothing but agriculture, and they could not replace the lost men of battle like the north. With all of the advantages of the North, the war should not have lasted over a year..

I can understand why the Confederate flag being displayed in a government setting would upset people. I have no problem with that but I do using this video as an example of why something is bad. Just because some new group decides to use something today does not make that item something we should ban.
The KKK often flew the U.S. flag but that isn't a reason to ban it is it?
