It's not just our Southern Border that leaks like a sieve - the entire system is a mess.
Our Prez want to increase Immigration and Visas ... why?

Lost in America: Visa Program Struggles to Track Missing Foreign Students - ABC News 9/2/14

The Department of Homeland Security has lost track of more than 6,000 foreign nationals who entered the United States on student visas, overstayed their welcome, and essentially vanished -- exploiting a security gap that was supposed to be fixed after the Sept. 11, 2001 terror attacks.

"My greatest concern is that they could be doing anything," said Peter Edge, the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement official who oversees investigations into visa violators. "Some of them could be here to do us harm."

The US Government give out in excess on 1 Million Visas every year to Foreign Students. 58,000 of them just disappear - of that number, over 6,000 are "of hightened concern".

Senator Tom Coburn (one of the few US Senators that actually pays attention to what's going on) said that 26 of these Foreign Visa holders were arrested on Terrorism charges since 9/11/01.

Look at some of the types of Schools these Foreign Students get Visas for:
Despite repeated concerns raised by Congress, federal immigration officials have also continued to grant schools certification to accept overseas applicants even if the schools lack accreditation, state certification, or any obvious measure of academic rigor.

There are now more than 9,000 schools on the government approved list. The list includes such top flight American colleges as Harvard and Yale, but it also includes 86 beauty schools, 36 massage schools and nine schools that teach horseshoeing. Foreign students can enter the U.S. on a visa to study acupuncture, hair braiding, or join academies that focus on tennis and golf.

What could possibly go wrong?

From the article - Homeland Security doesn't even track these Foreign Students and they go in and out of the USA. Unbelievable.

Oh well. One day 9/11 would seem like a joke.

Given the existence of ISIS, this seems particularly moronic. Yet once again, no one in the government (of either party) will be held responsible. Government employees aren't held to the same level of accountability as those in private business. Never have been, never will be.

Foreign students have never been " tracked". Students overstaying their visas has been going on forever.

Gus Bilirakis ( R- Fl) introduced bills in 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013, Student Visa Security Improvement Act that have been referred to committee and gone no place fast, within the House. It does not appear these bills have co-sponsors.

Foreign students generally pay higher tuition than US students. US schools compete with schools all over the world for students. Recruiting, admitting and retaining foreign students is business, big business. The "higher education" industry puts pressure on Congress and DHS to avoid roadblocks and make it easy for foreign students to obtain visas. The schools do not want responsibility for tracking/reporting foreign students.

And then there's the cost issue. Requiring DHS to do more extensive backgrounds checks and tracking will cost more money which probably does not sit well with the smaller government folk. And so the can continues to be kicked down the road.

I suppose foreign students could be electronically monitored. That would probably not go over too well with the Higher Learning interest lobby.

Pshaw, that's nothing, a drop in the bucket compared to the southern border.

A full page and all of 0 critical analysis of the situation and 0 alternatives. Instead of getting emotional about this, how about one of you do some research and come up with some actual ideas on how to deal with this. Short of implanting a GPS in people, there's no way for Homeland Security to track all of them.

So they are basically useless it would seem and a total waste of funds. Disband it if they are going to do nothing.

The funny thing is, "real" students are tracked closely (I was one). Their fingerprints are checked each time they enter. They are not allowed to work. They must maintain a full time status (12 credits per semester). And so on.

The problem is, those fake students are never tracked.
