Where I work those who actually do the work to create what we make are paid very well. We struggle with competition from India and China. To combat that we have a contractor do the packing out work. It pays around $10 an hour. If we had to pay $15 even being a huge company we would simply shut down.
Yeah, I'm not seeing your point. If a McD's worker starts a union your contractor would not be required to follow suit.

They've been doing it lol. How much was a fast food meal 5-10 years ago? How much was milk? What is the cost of every single thing you buy now compared to the past? I'm willing to bet that not only has the prices of real estate, goods, and service gone up over the years, but so has your pay (if you stayed in the same position) and so has minimum wage...

Fast food meals at McD's are around $7-$9 now. Minimum wage was $4.25 back when I worked there. If you asked me and we had this same exact discussion back when minimum wage was $4.25 if I would pay what prices rose to now days ($8 for 1 meal), my answer would be no; however, if my wage, and everyone else in response, was raised from $4.25 to what minimum wage is today, I would have no problem paying the hirer price of the meal.

That's what has always happened in the past, and that's what will happen today. This has been done before. $15 minimum wage today, will simply become the equivalent to the $4.25 minimum wage of yesterday. Unless the government creates a law forcing businesses to keep prices the same, and to share profits, your goals of taking from the rich to give to the poor will fail as it always has.

The price of living compared the the US is also higher. Look it up... $17 in AU isn't the equivalent to $17 here in the U.S. Nice try though...

I moved out when I was 18 making minimum wage. It was a studio but who cares. No one making minimum wage can afford to do this now. You have to be able to make a livable wage.

What if the job isn't worth doing at a living wage?

Were I live they can. It won't be nice, but they'll live. Even if they can not, then that's their problem and not the employers problem. They need to find a roommate, another job, or a better job. I do not understand why this is the employers responsibility?

Are you still making minimum wage?

I think she believes whether it's worth it or not, it's the worker's right to have it if the company is making a profit.

What about washing cars or sweeping floors? Or someone to fill your gas tank?
