Pretty soon his numbers will be down to just hard core liberals, who would support him regardless of his performance.

Any chance you can give us a preview of how you'll spin the 2014 election results into a win for Obama ? It's only a month away, so the talking points must be in draft form by now. I guess the biggest one will be the D's didn't lose as many seats as forecast ? Followed by the D's lost because of Local issues that have nothing to do with Obama ?

Why would I do that, I am not a Dem. Repubs almost always do well in off Presidential year elections and this year will be no different and as with 2010 it will not be a mandate of anything since only around 30% voters even participate. I have stated all along that the Repubs would most likely win the Senate and retain the House in this election. That said they will not have a super majority hence they will not be able to simply pass whatever Bills they want because they cannot overrule the Presidents veto. The Repubs need to take advantage of their gains by passing a viable budget and dealing with the many issues facing this Nation, if they do not and simply continue to play more political games the odds are they will lose big in 2016 and all that effort to gain more power will have been in vain. The Big questions is who will the GOP trot out in 2016, will it be a moderate that can work with both Parties and draw Independent voters or will it be a Tea Party candidate that even many Repubs would not be able to stomach voting for.

If the republicans do win the senate the one thing they can do is to pass bills and make the president veto it . They then ca sat they passed bills and negate the do nothing congress label . Or the president will finally have to work with the republicans, but it will be his choosing.
I am not convinced the polls are correct . They seem to have the reliability of weathermen

True they can pass bills that are so Partisan that the President will veto them and know what the voters will know the problem is not the President but Congress, as they have known for years now. Funny how you speak of forcing the President to work with the Repubs yet the Repubs have refused to work with him for 6 years, clue: he is not running for re-election hence he does not have to work with those that will not work with him, he has nothing to lose by standing his ground. I have a better idea why don't the Repubs pass a viable and workable Budget and present it to the President and then the Nation wins, or would that be too much to asked of the Republicans?
The polls pretty much agree no matter which poll is used, so yes they are probably fairly accurate on this.

The actual Gallop poll says results are similar foe Obama in 2010 and Bush in 2006, years when voters sent a message and the president's party performed poorly in mid terms.

One could infer the collective self esteem of this country was somehow based on partisanship to the point that when their home team wins they feel better about themselves?

A belief that any political party/ politician is going to make it all better is rather silly.

Yep. You just hope that the one you pick is the one who will do less damage.
