The winds of change are blowin', but they sure smell like a pig farm.

In fact, all countries that allow gay marriage are Christian countries (in terms of culture).

None of the Islamic, Buddhist, or atheist countries allows gay marriage.

This might sway their minds though since it's likely that the SC will eventually rule in it's favor. It's a hard belief to swallow that they would allow states to legalize it with their inaction but several years later reverse that ruling.

You can't call any of those relationships a "Marriage" because they do not fit under the definition of Marriage, which is one man and one woman only. Now remove Marriage from the Law entirely and just give people Civil Unions (straight and gay) with the same legal benefits (again, straight and gay) and leave it at that. Marriages will be a private, non-legal thing among Churches and Synagogues etc.....a couple could get "Married" in a church but the State will not grant them a Marriage Certificate, only a Civil-Union status. That's how it will be for EVERYONE.

Definitions change.

I am happy about the ruling for the same sex couples who deserve the rights and privileges under the marriage laws. They are citizens and taxpayers in this country, after all.

The government needs to get out of this business completely. There is plenty of contract law that can handle an agreement between parties. "Marriage" or "Unions" should not be rewarded or punished by government, it is silly. Enough with the "social engineering" laws already.

Considering the high unemployment and decreasing standard of living "marriages" and having children should be discouraged if anything...LOL

So here's the deal.

If you do not believe that gay marriage is the right thing to do, good for you. Don't partake in one.

If you believe that it is against God's law, good for you. Do not proselytize in here. That is trolling.

If you don't believe in God, good for you. Do not belittle others for their beliefs. That is a personal attack and, at times, trolling.

If you do not like what someone says, good for you. Snide retorts will only earn you infractions. Put the poster on ignore instead of taunting them because that is trolling too.

This thread is not about God or God's law. This thread is not about "nature and or nurture." It's about the Supreme Court and their decision to not decide.

^^^^ This

It doesn't matter what the bible says about it, this is not a theocratic nation like say Iraq so decisions can't be based on religion. If your religion goes against it you're not forced into the practice, but you have no legal ground to stand on.

That's that!

As one said months ago now the Court could (and would) choose to do nothing and Justice Scalia's comments about "gay marriage will be legal all over the United States" would come true.

The Court acted true to form really. Where there is not a split decision it is rare for the SCOTUS to take up a case already settled, especially one so recently as last year.

No one has been replaced since Windsor v DOMA on the Court nor can we assume have opinions changed on either the majority or minority side. No good would come of taking the case but a plentiful waste of time and prolonging the inevitable.

The Kennedy majority decision clearly told states and anyone else they were welcomed to return to the court but they had better have something else than the previous arguments used to defend DOMA. That Utah tried and didn't get to bat on "state's rights" means the Court isn't buying that argument, well not yet at least.

So far only a federal judge in Tennessee has upheld that state's ban. That case has a way to go before or if it reaches the high court and something tells me it won't. A decision will soon come regarding Texas and if you think certain segments of the Utah population aren't happy wait till that decision comes down.

Long story short far as marriage is concerned this SC has spoken, you cannot bestow it upon one group (straights) and not another (gays). Persons can call the justices all the bad names they want and get angry but there really isn't anything anyone can do. No state is going to succeed from the union on the matter, nor is there going to be a constitutional convention either. So persons just need to make their minds up to SSM and get on with life regardless of how they feel.

All this being as it may history tells us it is never wise to under estimate the capacity some have to hate and hold a grudge. It is totally possible to win a battle but loose a war in politics. That abortion and other discrimination cases are still often in the courts proves this.
