I think the CA Supreme Court got it right today with a vote of 6-1 in favor of supporting Prop 8, the ban on gay marriage.

Sacramento Bee Article (http://www.sacbee.com/topstories/story/1892402.html - broken link)

They basically said the proposition is an unlawful amendment to CA's constitution. Also interesting was how the said that all people do not have the 'inalienable' right to marry but that inalienable doesn't mean there can't be restrictions.

I count this as a victory for now but have no doubt that we'll be seeing this at the Fed Supreme Court some day.

I'd be curious to hear how others around Sacramento feel about this.

I voted against prop 8, but feel that this is the right decision. There is no doubt in my mind that gay marriage will be around in California within 2-6 years. If you look at the demographics of the last vote, as some older people die off and younger kids become eligible to vote, the numbers will eventually sway for gay marriage. The prop 8 vote was not a landslide and young people voted against it in large numbers.

BTW, I am not gay, not that theres anything wrong with it!

I usually vote "No!" on all propositions unless "No" means "Yes." In this case I didn't vote on it at all. I am a Catholic who happens to have a lesbian daughter. I passed!

A key factor in the Prop 8 victory was the pattern of yes votes by blacks and hispanics. That does not support your theory. If anything, the percentage of folks in favor will grow, unless immigration trends reverse.

You're assuming that cultures don't evolve. Sorry, you're on the losing side of this, redneck hillbilly.

This is a political discussion anyway. Shouldn't even be here.

Easy for you to say since you're undoubtedly heterosexual. Must be nice to be so smug and in the majority. MOD CUT

I've never seen a breakdown of young hispanics vs old on the issue or young blacks vs old blacks, but I would expect a similar breakdown, probably not as drastic.
