Okay, so the poll thing is great for right wing loved items like reducing environmental regulations and cutting taxes on rich people, but it's irrelevant on things like Universal Healthcare and the minimum wage.
In other words, this thread is bird cage liner at best.
The new left wing talking point must be pretending the polls indicate the majority support UHC..
Must suck to have to make things up in order to put forth an agenda..
Put universal healthcare up for a vote, but make sure a price tag is attached that does not allow any waivers or subsidies for the poor. You want it, you pay for it. Too many people are anticipating getting healthcare for free.
soo...universal healthcare...except for the poor......soo...not universal healthcare.
Considering how ballot initiatives went on marijuana legalization, minimum wage, rejecting abortion restrictions, bond issuances, and sales tax increases I'd say Republicans probably wouldn't like the outcome of passing laws based upon popular opinion of issues. American's are pretty darn liberal when polled by individual issues. We're just convinced as a people that the government goodies we use is worth it, but our taxes better not go to those other people and their welfare.
"Which would you prefer -- the current health insurance system in the United States, in which most people get their health insurance from private employers, but some people have no insurance; or, a universal health insurance program, in which everyone is covered under a program like Medicare that's run by the government and financed by taxpayers?"
Fifty-six percent said they preferred a universal system.

Everytime they have a bill they want to send to the President, send it in a package that contains a letter and polling data that shows the public support for said legislation. Then, release the letter/polls to the public. Simple yet effective. Let the public see just what you're sending the President to be signed into law. Then if he vetos it, the public will see just what was sent to him. Let him be the one to explain why he vetoed it.
the issue here is, none of the ideas that are popular with republicans are actually popular with most people.
