What could possibly be less rock n roll than moaning about tax rates.

Not to mention that reinforcing the existing power structure makes for bad rock 'n roll. Rock is basically anti-conservative by definition.

How could I forget about Megadeth? Far from an indie band, but many of Mustaine's songs are filled with right wing, anti-big government values, especially more recent material.

I saw them in concert on election night in 2004 and Dave was giving live election results during the show, and very happy to report where Kerry was losing.

One of my Megadeth favorites describes the president we now have... Symphony of Destruction

"You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch people's heads a'roll
A'roll, a' roll"

Josh Homme, the front man for Queens Of The Stone Age, is a fiscal conservative.

I wouldn't be too quick to jump on the Mustaine Train.
You just might be crazy when your drug use results in you being the ONLY person ever fired from Metallica.
His recording / crack-pipe sessions are legendary.
Oh yeah - he also thinks Obama staged shootings. Great guitarist playing with a few less brain cells.
Bordering on Nugent idiocy.

"Back in my country, my president is trying to pass a gun ban," he said.
"So he's staging all of these murders, like the Fast and Furious thing down at the border and Aurora, Colorado, all the people that were killed there.
And now the beautiful people at the Sikh temple."

I'm pretty certain they would not describe themselves as conservative, should they choose to view their work politically at all. Neil Peart read an Ayn Rand novel forty years ago and wrote a couple songs. Big deal. I think I heard Peart describe himself as a "bleeding heart libertarian" once, but he was laughing when he said it. And I'd remind you that they're Canadian, so there's no way they lean as far right as the average Democrat.

Perhaps Prussian Blue is more what you're looking for.

I understand Walter Becker is pretty right-wing. Wouldn't call Steely Dan an indie band any more than I would Rush, though. Steely Dan, like Rush and David Bowie, rises above the musical categories mere humans employ.
