I really don't understand, if it was any other time and somebody violently robs you, you have the right to use lethal force to protect yourself. Why aren't we seeing store owners fighting back like we saw in the LA riots?

"I was in fear for my life"
if that doesn't work, do what we do with vermin...
Shoot
Shovel
Shut Up
I hope some good people are standing up and defending their own lives and property from the savages in Ferguson. Sad and pathetic that law enforcement/national guard did not do so.
They technically have the right. I saw one store owner who claims they were told there would be a 1000 police officers and they didn't have to worry. He was encouraged not to man his store.

Depends on the state and jurisdiction...some areas allow you to shoot a robber, some do not even allow a weapon in a public business...let them come rob my place and the rumor that they won't be shot in a business will be tested

It depends on the law(s) in each state. Here in Mass you can never use lethal force to defend property. Why would you anyway? My insurance deductible is far less than what it would cost me for even the initial lawyer fees if I do use lethal force and then there's always the greater risk of getting injured or killed in the process....
It's quite ridiculous this kind of lawlessness is allowed. I hope all the store owners get enough insurance payments to move out of town and leave Ferguson with nowhere to buy supplies or groceries. That's more than what those looters deserve. Unfortunately, most people in Ferguson are good people, but I don't know... it's just a bad situation all around. The police and national guard should do more, but then who knows how many more animals will come out and riot across the country.
@Rick & Swamp, I was asking about Ferguson or Missouri in general. I thought it was a gun-friendly state, which is why I'm surprised we haven't seen store owners protect their properties with force.
most business owners will tell you that property isnt worth your life to defend, that is what insurance is for. thus most business owners wont allow their employees to arm themselves.
