One less job position = One less consumer. I see some talking about robots replacing the entire workforce. Do you envision robotic wal-mart cashiers heading to McD's for a meal? Figure out how a consumer-driven economy (71% of GDP in 2013) is going to operate with unemployed consumers.

You can get upset all that you want, the fact is, robots are going to replace more and more people. It's already been happening. You can live in denial and be angry about it, or you can be pro-active and learn a new trade/skill to keep up with ever changing technology.

But its only happening because cost anayslis of labor with benefits make it an attractive option. Look at things like ACA for example, and the mandate to move empoyees to either part time, pay a fine, or insure them. Over the next 20 years, insuring them, per Gruber, isnt a feasible option, and making them part timers, doesnt eliminate the need for labor, and now add the fine onto the cost of the salaries and the automation option becomes far more attractive to an employor.
Lease the equipment, its a tax write off, contract out for maintenance, its a tax write off etc..
Its the very same reason these companies rarely own the property they operate out of..
Government enticing businesses through tax manipulation to harm the public on a mass scale..
So automation is the excuse for less jobs now, but not when Bush was President...
Is that the synopsis we shoudl read into this thread now?
Software substitution has been ongoing for serious decades. Millions of rule based white collar, middle class job with benefits, and the management and HR functions that were once necessary, have been permanently eliminated. No president or party is to blame. No president or party has a clue what to do about it so they blame. The media and masses eat it up and delude themselves that the next guy will magically make it all better.

Somewhat true, but why is it other locations like China for example, dont have the same excuse? They are growing by leaps and bounds, taking our jobs away from us..
Automation is only part of the problem, and not even a fair representation of the complete picture.

Even water well drilling.....what used to take three people can be done with one.

How will the Kentucky Fried Chicken robot tell someone the establishment is completely out of every kind of chicken? Will customers have to input every single Chicken product, or will the Robot be able to say "Sorry we do not have anything left with chicken. We can only sell you something that is not chicken" (Yes this happened to a friend). It would be really annoying if the robot requires one to input each item on the menu only to find out it is sold out rather than simply listing the few items that are not sold out.
