The state defends life, liberty and property by taking life (death penalty), liberty (imprisonment) and property (fines). I can't think of any other ways to stop internal aggressors.
Imprisonment works just fine. Killing isn't necessary.
No one should be hung or given the death penalty... giving the death penalty is just as bad as the murderer himself!
Even I get strong emotions such as hoping that terrorist in Sydney was dying a slow and painful death, however at the end of the day the death penalty is always wrong - it should be up to the universe (or god) to decide ones death...
The universe or some imaginary sky god ? WTF?!? Do you just make this stuff up to get a laugh or do you really think this way every day of your life ?

saying something is wrong is not enough. WHY is it wrong?
There should be no death penalty, no lynching and no citizens rising up to slaughter those they think are guilty.
there should be due process. if due process finds someone guilty of murder, then the death penalty should be an option.
The reason is that socity should protect the innocent. with certain people, the only way to do that is to end their lives. period.
In the middle of town as to send a message! He was probably another fine young man turning his life around. What was his point of killing this wonderful young woman.
.22lr to the temple, problem solved. At his age he knows right from wrong and if he really does have something mentally wrong with him pumping him up full of medicines won't solve the problem , only mask it. Sadly he is much like a rabid animal, not much can be done other than to put him out of his misery.
You can be mentally ill at any age and not know the difference between right and wrong. It doesn't mean he should be released after 10 years of treatment, but if he is mentally ill, irrational, and doesn't understand why killing someone is wrong, the death penalty should not be applied.

Did you read what I posted ? At his age he should know right from wrong... IF he has mental issues that changes his ability to know right from wrong but at that point what do you do ? Keep him medicated the rest of his life on your dollar and mine ? Hope that when he turns 18 and goes on his own he will keep taking those meds ?
