The owner of the St. Louis Rams plans to build an NFL stadium in Inglewood, which could pave the way for the league's return to Los Angeles.
The developers said no tax dollars would be used for the construction project, including the stadium. The group plans to begin gathering signatures soon for an initiative that would place the entire project on the Inglewood municipal ballot in 2015.
Since it would be paid for with taxes, allow all taxpayers/voters decide. I wish there was a way to ensure only those who pay income and or property taxes and their spouse or significant other would be allowed to vote on the proposal. Make it so that in order to pass, the vote must have a super majority (or 60%) to pass.
No. It's a giveaway to the rich owners from public funds, without a concomitant public benefit.
On the flip side, if the city/state pays for the stadium then they own the stadium therefore the profits from other events would go back to the city funds. Downside is government leaders can't budget to save their lives. Greed, nepotism, and mismanagement would ruin what could have been a good thing.
