I certainly am not going to read all the responses so I am sure mine has been mentioned more than once. A marriage license isn't an invation of privacy or goven intrusion, it is a legal document that is used for many things. Do you think a drivers license or a birth certificate is an intrusion as well? A marriage license has nothing to do with who a person can marry for heavens sake. Requiring a license to marry and being able to marry who you want are not the same thing. Marrying who you want is a totally different topic.

A marriage license is a document informing the government of the existence of a civil contract. That is all it is.
