Well, they are pretty vocal and they are pretty clear. They want to establish a Caliphate and install their version of Islam globally. They also seem to be preaching the end of times which they believe is going to be in their lifetime, which was not what Bin Laden thought.
It indeed does. IMO they believe by being absolutely brutal they can end the wars on their countries faster. The same rationale we used.
