I've read this philosophy from different libertarians who talk about taxes being theft and that they should be illegal because of that. But what I don't understand is why do people want that? Don't people realize what taxes pay for?
  1. Schools, we forget that on the local level schools get their budgets from the state government. What do we do, just have private schools that you have to pay an arm and a leg for? We already have that, it's called college and look at the student loan bubble at about 20K per student shackling them in a way that many cannot move.
  2. Roads, roads are funded by the gas tax. If the gas tax is repealed with other taxes, who would fund the road you drive on your errands? Who will fund the bridge you cross over to go to work?
  3. Public Transportation, similar to roads public transit such as buses, trains, subways and lightrail systems can only run on fare so much, expansion of lines rely on money. Who pays for that?
  4. Defense, if there is no taxes on the federal level who will cover equipment for a war brought upon us by an attack?

Taxes are theft when you demand that one group pay a higher percentage and the other gets a free ride. It's theft when one if always force to give more and more and the other group keeps taking more and more.

You liberals better learn the true meaning of FAIR. NOW PAY YOUR FAIR SHARE!

For those of you who are takers and don't contribute to society (a brood of illegitimate babies don't count), get the hell of the roads.

Define fair. Is it fair that a person who makes say 12.5K pay 17% of their income as well as costs that they may not be able to shake to someone who makes 125K and mitigates cost?

LOL, is it fair that the person making 125K worked to get an education and go up the ladder have to pay more because he put forth more effort. Or do we just reward people who are too lazy to better themselves?

Who's to say that the one making 12.5K didn't get an education? There's too many X-factors here whether it is connections at a workplace, accessibility to the resources to move, a flooded market for employees, industries disappearing over night, etc. If it is simply out of laziness, sure but I don't think it is from laziness alone like you and others may think it is.

Which taxes are you talking about? Income taxes? Capital gains? Sales tax? Property tax? Excise tax?

I agree.

The last thing liberals want is a fair tax code.

Many didn't want to put the effort in to improve their marketable skills and when the result wasn't so rosy they want other people to pay for their stupidity.

We're not paying an arm and a leg now? The issue here is no competition which leads to poor performance and high costs.

Just an FYI but that's how much NYS is paying for k-12 students.

It's a user fee and that would continue....

I'd imagine you start with whoever is riding them instead of robbing other people so they can eat a $10 hamburger that cost $16 to make.

This is obviously part of the federal governments job if not the most important one they perform.
