While excusing government goons giving a beating to anyone saying a cross word to them. You are a good citizen.
well, good is a subjective word.
I am not trying to take sides here, the cops don't sign my pay check, but it is what it is.
well, The threshold for "reasonable suspicion," on the other hand, is not as stringent as that which is required to establish probable cause. It is more than simply a "hunch" but does not necessarily involve indisputable evidence of a crime. For example, a motorist who is swerving from lane to lane may be drunk or just a bad driver, but this gives an officer reasonable suspicion to investigate further.
If you are still wondering, "When can the police search search your car?" or for help with unlawful search and seizure defense, contact a criminal defense attorney.

Those two statements are not incompatible. He did not say the driver was legally obligated to answer the officer's question, just that he could have forestalled the whole situation has he done so.
If you truly know when the police can and can not search you then you'd know that as soon as he started not following instructions, like to pull out of the lane and pull over, the police have a right to "detain" him and in detaining him they have a right to search him and the area under his immediate control for possible weapons.

Where am I going? I drive back and forth across the border because I am bored, or I like driving around the nastiest water on the planet.
