The terrible aspect of this is the abrogation of rights and freedoms of citizens to move about freely when illegals are encouraged, overlooked and granted amnesty after amnesty in any case.
It's ridiculous in the extreme to "pretend" to be enforcing laws by infringing on the rights of legitimate citizens only to turn around and ultimately give illegals a free pass.
Have a few drinks in a bar with a Border Agent who has stood duty at any of the major crossing points in Az, Tx and CA and you'll get an idea of the frustration they endure having to plasti-tie the same dude over and over with no prosecution taking place for his crime of entering illegally; simply a catch and release program to see the same guy put on a bus and dropped off on the Mx. side of the border get caught again the next day.
It is a wonder they just don't throw up their hands and watch them enter when politicians in Washington undercut every effort made to stop them.
There is no excuse for a check point a hundred miles from the border, none whatsoever. For every thousand American citizens who have had their right of 'freedom of movement' within their own country suspended for however long during one of those stops, they may catch one illegal still dumb enough to travel a major route only to take him back to the border and release him anyway.....it's nuts!
I always respond to the agents questions regarding my citizenship and we always tell them where we are going. How do you expect them to do their job if they don't ask these questions. Damned if they do and damned if they don't.

It's none of their business where I'm going. Unless I'm a suspect and they have probable cause to question me I have the right to travel with out interference. It's not their job to monitor our activities.
I picture a convoy of cars all containing lawyers working for the NAACP, ACLU, AADP, AAARP, NOW, even the NRA being stopped and questioned one after the other and within a short period the resultant challenges before the SCOTUS.
I bet those remote checkpoints would be dismantled and never again be resorted to with the questionable prerogative of stemming illegal aliens.
They know what they have to do to stop this stuff and it's got nothing whatsoever to do with physical checkpoints in the American heartland.
In what other illegal endeavour do you enable it by giving the offenders driver's licenses and other benefits? Cripes; you punish your smokers and seat-belt offenders with tougher sanctions.
Dry up their ability to work and make an income by enacting E-Verify along with prosecuting those who circumvent it.

Stopping people who are obeying all laws is not their job.
