That huge majority has evaporated this year. The voters of the county have finally decided they have had enough of their funding Arpaio's multi-million dollar craziness, and have been given one to many black eyes by the old jerk.
The criminal charges will be the final nail in the coffin for him, and change is way overdue in Maricopa County.
Now if only the county could find a way to recoup the millions of dollars Arpaio stole from the taxpayers to pay for his many, many lawsuits. They should confiscate everything he owns, though that would only be a drop in the bucket.
I love that his birther activities played a big part in his criminal contempt. That's just icing on the cake. Birthers deserve every bad thing that comes their way. (I'm looking at you, Trump.)
Criminal contempt. As in, he blatantly and willfully and with intent ignored the court's orders. As in, conviction would probably mean jail time. So yeah, it IS a big deal.

Did you get lost on your way to posting? This is a thread about crooked Sheriff Arpaio. You remember him. He's the guy who has cost his county millions and millions of dollars due to his ongoing criminal activities. The guy who is probably going to die in prison for criminal contempt of court.
He is a very old guy and I expect to see him fade into irrelevance.
