Animal rights activists don't care if kids are able to see and experience these fascinating creatures. They don't care if kids learn about them either. It has always been my experience when visiting a park like Sea World, or the San Diego Zoo (or any zoo) or the San Diego Wild Animal Park, that I have learned a lot about different animals and their behaviors that I wouldn't otherwise have learned. We took our kids to these places too, as part of their home schooling.
It's a shame that some people want to spoil such experiences for others.
And speaking of "animal rights" activism, it is because of these nut jobs that San Diego no longer has a tuna fleet. They were forced to move to foreign ports because of the controversy over the purse seiner, the large nets used in modern times for catching tuna. But the nets also caught dolphins, and a few sharks. Today, San Diego no longer has a tuna fleet, and the city that was once called the "tuna capital of the world," can no longer make that boast.
Yeah, you are absolutely right. If you want your kids to see whales then take them on an Alaskan cruise to actually see their beauty in their habitat.....not some dog and pony show where they are taught to do tricks to entertain us And that is what Sea World is all about.
I went to the zoo a few weeks ago and it was just so depressing. Seeing these animals in small enclosures broke my heart. I'll never go back again. I just don't understand how people can be entertained by seeing this. Do you have to be heartless to enjoy the zoo and Sea World? To sit there and watch a whale in a pool has to be difficult for anyone to watch just knowing they belong in the ocean.
I guess nobody gives a crap about the pets we imprison for our own pleasure. Set them free please. They belong to the nature.
You mean like single cat households(for instance)...cats that never get to experience the outdoors and their natural habitat and live without ever seeing another of their kind?
Lone Parakeets , cockatiels, cockatoos and parrots in cages that barely allow them to stretch their wings?
You mean like that?
That says far more about you than it does about the animal rights activists you scorn. If you can't learn about animals without having them torn from their families (orcas have family structures, for instance) and forced to perform tricks for your amusement, you live a very limited life.
I've never seen a lot of animals that I know a great deal about, and care about. They need not be captured and sent milions of miles away from their natural habitats for me to read, watch documentaries and explore the Internet to learn and care.
So much justification for horrific, selfish human behavior. Truly ugly.

You care more about animals than you do about humans. It's okay to kill babies, but it's not okay to display wild creatures that do not have a soul, act purely on instinct, do not "think" (as humans do), have no ability to reason, etc.

We were members of the San Diego Zoological society for many years, and I'm proud of that.
And to add to that, was is to learn by seeing them do tricks? That doesn't teach children about their natural behaviors in the wild. It's SOLELY for ENTERTAINMENT VALUE AND $$$. Corporate profits > the animals. Go scuba diving or on a whale watching trip if you truly need to "see" the animals you want to learn about. There's nothing natural about the behaviors of an orca in captivity. What a sorry excuse to abuse animals and rip them from their families.
Obviously, you've never visited one of these parks, or you would know that it isn't just about watching animals "do tricks."
I'm always amazed by the ignorance of some people.
All these Eco nazis that want to free animals in captivity will condemn them to death. So park the outrage and direct your misguided attention elsewhere.
Ever been to a zoo? Do you not watch a movie if it has an animal? Do you take any modern medicines?
These people are all hypocrites. If they were honest, they would all ride bicycles, not use electricity, or any modern conveniences, and perhaps live in tents or caves. They would all be vegetarians, too.
