Why....seems very unlikely. Their murder rate is 8 times less than Baltimore and that Mormon ethic is dominant.

Baltimore is a wonderful city. Don't let the recent riots affect your view.

But what about one of the highest murder rates of any city in the world....shouldn't that affect anyone's view? What is so great about Baltimore?

Actually people today are doing what they always did.

Qualifier: NYC is the sole East Coast exception to the following:

As they get more affluent they move from core cities to ring suburbs, getting more land and sq footage in the process. But the power of the city does not dissipate much, as their GDP still rocks, and the burbs with new residents are largely just bedroom communities.

NYC is the reason: It takes affluence to afford it.

Seriously, where is the link on this. And the inner harbor is beautiful and very vibrant.

Only 4 american cities make the "50 Most Violent Cities in the World'": Baltimore, New Orleans, Detroit and St. Louis, while 42 are from Latin America 19 from Brazil. Baltimore is at the back of the list. And if this were the 1980s-90s or included the 100 most violent cities I'm sure that list of American cities would have been more abundant. Even Baltimore's murder rate is a small statistic for a city over 600,000. Your chances of being a victim of crime are slim they increase more with drug trade, prostitution and other such things that any normal person would not have any part of. So if your trying to make it seem like people get shot randomly then you have the wrong picture.

Exactly.

And why don't we see white liberals flocking to black run areas in order to catch that diversity starship?

TimtheEnchanter"Baltimore already IS like Detroit. In 1970 there were over 900,000 residents and it was roughly 50-50 white to black. Today it is just over 600,000 and about 1/3 white. That means of the 300,000 people gone, 250,000 are white."

WHAT? It is quite likely half the 1970 residents DIED. Anyone 35 then would be 80 now. Anyone 50 would be 95.

Choose any city, and 90% of the 1970 pop is gone, via death, moving, etc.

As you obviously missed this earlier in the thread:

During the same time period, population also peaked for Pittsburgh,New Orleans, San Francisco,Cincinnati... so on and so forth.

in fact, the population peaked for 69 of the top 100 cities of that times. Now obviously, new cities pop up/grow and the list changes. But the cities that most of us view as historical in nature, peaked in population long ago.

Last but not least, i will remind you that this thread is about "the next" detroit. Baltimore obviously is not in that boat.

People in Baltimore have the sense to know that the "riot" was a small fraction of what happened in 1992 in LA or 1968 in many cities, i.e. not that big despite what the media hype machine would have you think.
