I wouldn't make excuses for her. It's bad judgement to use Facebook to complain about your boss. People want to put all their drama on social media, and it's just asking for trouble.

I love Facebook, and I use it responsibly. It's great for keeping up with old friends and family. I've moved a lot through the years, and know people from all over the country. So it comes in really handy, but I don't see the point of posting every butt hurt thought that enters my mind there. If people would keep it positive they will be fine, so I don't understand people that denounce social media. The problem is the idiots that use it.

She wasn't complaining about her boss. She was making a joke about a stupid movie and her boss interpreted it in a strange way...I expect these firings to be subject to legal scrutiny sometime in the future. In general, employers can fire people for any reason except a few.

Stupid just finds new ways to be stupid with new technology.

I've known of people at companies I worked at that have mailed around porn and kept it on company computers (that was a group of people so they caught one...and then 3-4 more got caught as a result).

We had people having sex in the office get caught.

FB posts with pictures of people doing things on company property that were not good. (and they'd friended many of their co-workers).

That's WHITE COLLAR jobs.

You get to other kinds of jobs....wow....look out. My friends had employees go into seizures from bad drugs they took on break, drinking 6-packs in the parking lot over lunch, theft (lots of it), knife fights in the parking lot after work (friend worked at a meat processing plant).

There are some crazy people out there.

My personal opinion is that a person's social media account should have no bearing on their work unless it actually directly impacts their work. I think that eventually this sort of behavior will run into a legal challenge.

It sets a slippery slope, what's next? People will be fired to criticizing their boss at the dinner table?

I personally believe that there should be greater regulation regarding the termination of workers. Termination should be as a result of criminal behavior or violation of company policies ... not because some stuck up manager had his/her feelings hurt. Now if she sat around at work on FB all day well that would be a valid reason (violation of company policies).

Again, it's the whole free speech thing. You can say stupid stuff but to think there won't be a backlash makes you really stupid. Like the vet who killed a cat and posted it on FB.

I agree with this ^^^^^^

I feel kind of bad for this girl,
she only posted that she hated working in the day care and she doesn't like to be around with a lot of noisy kids.

Well, be honest everybody. Many of us do not like to be around a lot of noisy kids. My parents even said, they sometimes wanted to stay away from us for a couple of days. But they are still darn good parents.

As long as the girl does her job, so what she vented a little bit? Simply venting doesn't mean that she cannot be a good employee at the day care center.

I would of fired her to. Why would you want someone working there who doesn't want to be there/hates it?

She was about to start her new job at a daycare when she posted on Facebook about how much she hates working at daycares and hates being around kids. Her employer told her not to bother coming in.

Of course the news tries to make her out to be the victim by pointing out that "she's a single mother and was trying to get out on her own" and that she "cried" and was "really hurt".

if your at a business lunch or dinner and you blast your boss . . .well people have got fired for less. If you blast your boss while with your vendors, and they rat on you, boom hammer dropped.

Facebook, especially a public post, is not the dinner party at home. You can set those posts to only show to close friends. . but this lady didn't She posted it a website that can be viewed by thousands and millions.

We live in the most beneficial of economies - employment at will. This is efficient. You have to decide to work there. The employer decides to keep you. It works, united states is far more efficient and has very low (per western countries) unemployment.

At will employment means you can be fired for ANY reason. You smell bad. . whatever. You have no protection if you say something stupid on facebook (there are limitations but demographics such as sexual orientation, age, sex)

I think thats the way it should be. "protections" for employees (or employers) always led to decreased efficiency. F that noise.

This would have affected the place of work. Child care is local. People don't order it over the phone or ship their kids in. She is of child bearing age (with a child) and its safe to assume so are many of her friends.

Would you take your kid to a center where you saw one of the employees say they didn't like kids?
