The Democrats are not anti-capitalism.

There won't be a backlash against the left in the US because there is no left in the US. The Dems have been moving further and further to the right since Reagan. Clinton was not left wing, and neither is Obama. The Dems have effectively moved as far to the right as they can, and the GOP is left with the lunatic fringe, the old timers who think neoconservatism is still viable... oh, and they're flirting with children who enjoy the simplistic notion of a free market that can make their dreams come true. But Rand Paul is not his father, and no matter how cute he is or how ignorant his fan base is, as long as they pay attention to what he's saying they'll quickly realize that he's not what they're looking for.

Bush took the US as far to the right as it was willing to go-- but you can only suppress so much science, only welcome so much greed and only interfere with so many trivial civil rights before people stop and say enough is enough. Fox News is a national joke that is undermining conservatism in general with far-out propaganda and idiotic statements about Obama being a Muslim or weird disaster scenarios that are only good for a brief scare before they don't happen.

The GOP is preaching antiquated rhetoric using neoconservative propaganda to sway a population that is less religious, sick of war, skeptical of Wall Street and feeling the very real effects of a wealth gap that definitely cannot be blamed on social programs or regulations that they are aware of.

The only way such a radical shift to the far right would be possible is if left wing socialist-style programs proved to be a bust-- but since there really aren't any, and the US is actually the exact opposite of socialism, the only thing pushing people to the far right would be extreme paranoia.

When Hillary wins, the GOP will need to do some serious reflection... but I honestly don't know what it will do with itself, because they can't go more left without becoming Democrats 2 and they can't go more right without turning into full-blown Nazis... so maybe they'll try anarcho-capitalism or something. But there was a very good reason for the party preventing Reagan from going the libertarian route-- mostly the havoc it would wreak on the economy.

It's the stability of the 2 party system that is going to prevent the US from ever becoming a truly left wing nation, but it will also prevent it from going all the way to fascism.

America is different. We are already a lot more diverse than them. Immigration here is more economics than culture. Our corporations have no sense of country. Our diversity is less hostile than europes, and more diverse. But make no mistake, diversity is originally a libertarian value, and not liberal or conservative. Liberalism has successfully claimed diversity under its own name and have never stopped paying for it. They thrive on diversity but they will also fail on diversity in the future.
I think that from the American perspective, the driver is economic, especially the in terms of the global economy. The big banks and big corporations, imho, prefer a breakdown of American nationalism so they can do whatever they want to increase profits, whether such hurts America and the American people or not. The right wing and free market people are oblivious to the kinds of realities thinking folks like yourself present. So they defend the enemies of our way of life in the name of some ivory tower version of the free market which bears little resemblance to the reality.

It would be wonderful to hear this stuff debated in the republican primaries, but I won't be holding my breath.

Those were left wing movements.

Conservatism always loses, it's the Washington Generals of ideologies. For example, extreme right-wingers once made up the status quo in this country. Today they are on the fringe, the scum of the earth.

Progressivism, because it is by nature willing to embrace change, always wins out in the end.

If you think that anything changes with leftists in control, you have clearly not been paying attention. Nothing changes in a democracy. The whole purpose of the democratic system is to maintain the status quo by creating an illusion that the people actually have a say in the process. It exists to benefit a small and powerful elite who maintain their position by manipulating the masses to do their bidding. There is scant difference between the two major political ideologies. They are both slaves of the same master, money and power, and what you and I think really doesn't factor into the equation. Obama and Bush are virtual clones.

I think this recession has brought about people paying attention to tax; borrow; spending of ever
bigger government. They see Greece as the ultimate end of those policy. They see Greece not able to pay the price for what they have already consumed.

And you think liberals and democrats are any different? They are the ones who support diversity to the full. They are the ones who ignore reality. Then again, most of e multicultural elite is affluent and isn't affectef by the negative aspects of diversity.

Whoever takes the West better be able to fill the potholes. It's the practical things that matter most and if a party can't grasp that then it is not long lived.

Default Why the Far-right will soon dominate the Western world!

In the USA, the obsession with control-freakish culture wars by the religious component of the radical right will prevent them from getting very far. They're at their high water mark currently.

Except that the so called progressives in today's west aren't actually anything of the sorts. They don't judge people by their worth. This is their idea of what progressive means:

And then they get shocked that more and more people are turning on them instead of becoming more liberal/progressive.

It's this assumption that liberalism/progressives will win no matter what they do that is a part of the reason for why they appear to be so utterly unable to prevent the growth of far-right movements. They think they can do whatever they want with no ill-effect. And when said ill-effect comes they just scream and yell like small kids hoping that the disagreement goes away.
