yes, the country is becoming more accpecting on social issues but it is far from the majority on most issues and the country is still, like Karl Rove said, to the right of center. Of course this depends on who you ask, and when you ask plus how the question is worded> A poll is only as good as the day it is taken. and a poll like this is so narrow, with so few participating there is almost not truth to it.
But in the Red States, such as Oklahoma, many people wish more Republican church pastors, like Huckabee, would run for political office. The issues closest to the hearts of people in such states really are stopping gay marriage, banning abortion, promotion of Christianity in public schools, posting The Ten Commandments in or outside of public buildings, opposition to marijuana law reform, etc. And of course, pastors are closest to these issues as well. While he has a lot of competition, Huckabee is sure to win a number of Red States.
where are you getting the idea we wish more pastors would run for office? I think that is a figment of your wild imagination. and not many are trying to ban abortion. Yes,many and I one would like to see abortion banned when it is late in a pregnancy. At that stage it is murder no matter how you look at it. Posting the 10 commandments, why does that bother you? No one is forcing you to read them. You think the red states are opposing pot, here in AR using it for medical reasons almost passed in 2010. If it comes up again it will pass. You might want to do some research rather than just depend on idea you get from others who think they know how the rest of us think.
The exact questions and the way they are asked can really influence the results.
Election polls are clear, you want Clinton or Bush or undecided?
Its a lot different when people are asked about their feelings about the issue, and the questioner.
True, but when asking about gay marriage for example, the question is pretty cut and dry. Abortion may be a little more tricky. Polls will show that a majority supports abortion in "most cases", but does not specify what are most cases.
Yes...the country, as a whole, is more "socially liberal" than in the past....and Republicans need to get on board with that! WE NEED fiscally conservative leaders....ones who won't spend us into the poor house!
It's my opinion that "social issues" shouldn't be addressed by the Federal Government, anyway.
That's why the country is and has been going down hill for the past 50 years. The liberal movement has brainwashed us into normalizing subversive and deviate behavior. Sad but true. I blame Hollywood and the news media.
I actually think economic issues are a lot more important than social issues, because ultimately economics are the ultimate social issue. The best thing for minorities of all kinds is to have economic power, more social power will come as a result of that. Giving them only the social rights isn't enough.

I disagree. Social issues set the tone and morality of our nation. I don't want to be an "anything goes" nation. It appears that we have gotten away from Christian principles and headed down the road of Soddem and Gamorah.
