And I see the usual suspects here who claim to have lived in the south and yet denounce the entire region as if we're all of the same culture. such statements only proves their ignorance. You people here act as if the south are white racist homophobes who only vote republican and are a product of inbreeding. I sometimes wonder if the only thing you know about people from the south is what you see on old cartoons, TV shows, movies, and evening news? Heck, one of your favorite US Presidents is from Arkansas and he's a Democrat. Oh, and don't forget the home builder president Jimmy Carter of Georgia. Every region of the country has its good and bad but it appears the northeast and west coast will always have the fly over country to make fun of.
And what they seem also to be forgetting..... We are being overrun down here by half-backs! All from the northeast....
Yes Chicago and Philly are world renowned cities that attract immigrants from all over the world and boast world class universities and industries. For every Detroit there is a failed and dependent on the federal government southern state such as Mississippi, Louisiana, Arkansas, etc
And yet people are leaving those cities and moving to the south in droves. You mentioned Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas, but what about places like Florida (which recently passed up New York as the 3rd most populous state), Texas, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia which also continue to grow in population? Meanwhile populations in the northeast, and midwest have been rather stagnant in terms of growth. If the south is so bad, and such a hostile environment, then why do people continue to flock there? If racism is so bad down there these days, why is there a higher concentration of black people in the south?

So, I guess your solution to "improve" the south is fewer blacks?
The elephant in the living room - most northern states are lily white. Heck, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Isalnd haven't seen a colored person since the Reagan administration.

Well, to some Ohio which some consider part of the midwest and northeast is also considered flyover country. Nevermind that we still rank 7th in population. Our New York friends that we met on our honeymoon had the misconception that we're nothing but farm country. While yes Ohio does have a lot of rural areas, they were actually suprised when they came to visit us to see that the region we lived in was quite "civilized."
Actually the more developed countries are less religious. There is almost a direct correlation.
Only because those countries keep their general population in ignorance. We are seeing this ignorance penetrate our younger generations who have never had to experience the realities of life.
