Medicare finances improve partly due to ACA, hospital expenses, trustee report says - The Washington Post

"Ten years ago, Medicare was a runaway freight train. Spending was projected to increase indefinitely, rising to 13 percent of GDP by 2080. This year, spending is projected to slow down around 2040, and reaches only 6 percent of GDP by 2090. Six percent. That's half what we thought a mere decade ago."

This is a loser of an issue for Bush. I'm amazed he is touting this given the cold response it elicited when Ryan first proposed it.
Bush wants to phase out Medicare. Scott Walker wants to phase out unions. The Koch brothers want to phase out Social Security.

Is there anyone out there with a sense of self preservation still thinking of voting Republican?

The politicians have bled Medicare for decades making promises for a vote and giving more and more silly perks to those who did little to pay into such a luxury system. I watched the goodies being handed out in my mom's respite nursing home...endless free scooters and when I asked one of her table mates why she was giving up her perfectly good scooter...she said she just wanted a new one. Spa treatments...and let us not ignore the good doctors who ran these old people through like cattle with endless, silly treatments and tests..anything they could bill for.
We have contributed to the system all our working lives...probably see nothing at all at the end. I do pass out blame to both R's and D's for this shameful waste.

I am sick of the GOP but tell me what the Democratic party has done to stop the fraud and abuse of Medicare sand Social Security? They ignored the vast fraud and waste for decades using the Medicare and Social security system as a blackmailing tool to get the old mouth breathers to trust them..then let it go bankrupt. At least Obama has managed to stop some of the abuse and I applaud him for going after the greedy doctors that milk it. But too little too late and I do not trust the dems to save either program. Third party is an option in the future..if we have a future. Greece here we come!

Hillary is as big a tool. Sanders is a joke, a zombie resurrected lol. Jeb is a huge tool I agree. Where do we dig these morons up? Don't we have some capable people out there among the masses to fix some issues? Do they have to be freaking attorneys?

Well they would work if we could vet some of the abusers in the system. But neither side wants to do that...what would they run on? How could they blackmail seniors into voting for them?

Both programs are far too important to a politician on either side running for the big house. They won't let them go away. I do fear the younger people having to pay a huge amount more for them soon. They will also retire far later in life.

Do you ever stop and wonder why at an election year this issue raises its head again, but nothing the previous years has been done to fix it? Did the math suddenly appear on the CBO's computer?

Medicare, social security, public schools, libraries, anything that benefits working Americans is in the GOP's sights for cancellation.

Gotta have some money set aside for the next big mideast oil war, after all.

Or not...

Iraq war cost: $6 trillion. What else could have been done? - latimes

Dubya, Cheney & Co plunged right into the last quagmire without giving a thought to the costs. Matter of fact, we were told that the cost of the war would be paid for by sales of Iraqi oil.

There's a lot of money to pay for this. It doesn't have to be U.S. taxpayer money. We are dealing with a country that can really finance its own reconstruction, and relatively soon.

The emerging reality from all of this is that Pubs just hate to spend tax dollars on anything that benefits the vast majority of taxpayers.

Medicare and all health insurance is more typically a huge hand out to doctors and the healthcare industry. They're the ones that keep inflating the cost and benefiting from it. No one can afford to pay for healthcare like that.

Just look at a stint in a skilled nursing facility. Insurance and medicare typically pays $6k-$12k a month to share a dinky room and be fed prison quality food and receive the most crappy and minimal care. It's real value isn't worth 1/3 or 1/4of what it costs.

So, make your self clear.

Are you concerned about making sure the elderly get healthcare or are you concerned about abolishing a gov't. program.

What you, and on purpose, DON'T say, is that a NEW system will REPLACE Medicare.

Now, IF you want to discuss the good and bad about each, that is another story but, to just to blurt out they they want to get rid of medicare with nothing to take its place is a lie.
