"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) fast-tracked a bill to defund Planned Parenthood on Friday because of an undercover video of a Planned Parenthood doctor discussing the donation of fetal tissue after abortions. But McConnell was one of many Republicans who voted to lift a ban on fetal tissue donations after abortions in 1993 -- the very move that legalized Planned Parenthood's actions."

McConnell Voted In 1993 To Legalize Fetal Tissue Donations After Abortion

McConnell, attempting to placate his regressive base again and hoping no one realizes what a hypocrite he is.

"Donate"?

What's that got to do with someone who wants to sell them so she can drive a Lamborghini?

Well, what do you know, we agree on something. I didn't say that the far right was buying it--I know they have no love for McConnell--only that he seems to think he can throw them a bone now and then to keep them in the fold. Even if it means pretending to be outraged now at legislation he was all in favor of previously.

Is the problem with parceling out aborted babies or selling the parcels? It's O.K. as long as you aren't selling it?

What a bunch of baloney, I would have voted for it too. If I had to abort a baby, because of an illness or defect, I would want the option to donate. I would want to advance finding a cure or prevention. It's much like an adult willing their body to science. I'm sure, at the time, folks didn't imagine the ban lift would turn into a cash cow for planned parenthood (if it did, we don't know for sure yet). Anyone calling McConnell and others hypocrites over this are just your typical partisan hacks.

It's a non-story, in the long run.

Several state legislatures will "look into" it. There will be much fulminating and desk-pounding. In the end, the legislatures will find that PP stayed within the bounds of the law.

There will be few or no changes made to existing law, because guess what - the general public is even more supportive now than it was in 1993 of advanced medical technology, and they will support the hospitals and research institutions who will oppose any significant changes.

Probably the biggest impact of this video will be on the pockets of the die-hards who think donation = selling for personal profit, and who will shell out their money to the folks who made and distributed this video.

Mitch McConnell's credibility is destroyed with his consituents. He can kiss his behind goodbye.
