There is a higher standard when it comes to denying people their constitutional rights to participate in our democracy. What is so hard about that?
Are you so corrupt at the cost of many that you're willing to to be used, so determined to win that you're willing to be portrayed as stupid and lazy for them?
But it's constitutional for working people to pay out the ass in taxes while these people can't pay $1 to be part of society. Why don't we just hand them a binky, stick a pacifier in their mouth, and make them wear a diaper because that's how they are being treated. Like they are helpless.
To answer your question petch751, yes it is constitutional for the government to levy taxes. The Taxing and Spending Clause gives the government this right. The correct question would be is it fair? The answer to that question will very by perspective and opinion..
"The Taxing and Spending Clause[1] (which contains provisions known as the General Welfare Clause[2] and the Uniformity Clause[3]), Article I, Section 8, Clause 1 of the United States Constitution, grants the federal government of the United States its power of taxation. While authorizing Congress to levy taxes, this clause permits the levying of taxes for two purposes only: to pay the debts of the United States, and to provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States. Taken together, these purposes have traditionally been held to imply and to constitute the federal government's taxing and spending power.[4]"
You must provide a picture ID for employment in the US.
The I-9 form must be filled out for every employee.
That IHOP waitress has no ID. How did she get her job ? One MUST be provided to get a job in the US.
And there is no "special ID" for voting.
Actually you don't necessarily need a picture ID to get an I-9, you can provide a voter registration card.
But seriously there are other ID cards that can be used in lieu of a picture ID, but it's a good question.
I imagine some low level jobs like a dishwasher skirt the rules and are not so formal.
Who siad they only check the ID's of minorities, the issue is that the requirement disproportunately impacts those at the bottom, particularly latinos and blacks.
Voting rights should be taken serioulsy, we shouldn't make it more difficult.
This is a solution in search of a problem.
Many time when talking about the poor, it is brought up that there are MORE POOR WHITES then blacks.
I keep asking how does it affect poor blacks MORE then poor whites? I seldom get a response.
I agree, some of the fees these states charge are outrageous. There's no way a piece of paper is worth $25.00. That said, voting should have no financial duties levied on it by the state. Be it $1.00 or $100.00... When this happens it makes said action unconstitutional.
Then we should apply the EXACT conditions on the 2nd amendment.
Why do we have to get a permit for concealed carry? "'To keep and bear arms shall NOT be infringed.
A background check to even buy a hand gun is REQUIRED and COSTS.

But those forms are so haaaaard
They are so hard that I have to pay someone to figure out the 72,000 page tax code so they are done correctly.
People who think it's too hard to get a voter ID are stupid and lazy <whine>
Democrats can't win without stupid and lazy people <whine>
