Christianity is the single largest blessing this country has and it has benefited millions of people for a few hundred years. That much is obvious. But the blessings of Christianity have been the mainstay of our country for a long time.
-----------------
"Christianity is responsible for the way our society is organized and for the way we currently live. So extensive is the Christian contribution to our laws, our economics, our politics, our arts, our calendar, our holidays, and our moral and cultural priorities that historian J. M. Robers writes in The Triumph of the West, 'We could none of us today be what we are if a handful of Jews nearly two thousand years ago had not believed that they had known a great teacher, seen him crucified, dead, and buried, and then rise again.' " (From the book What's So Great about Christianity by Dinesh D'Souza.)

It is undeniable that Christianity is intertwined with the very fabric of our western society. Like it or not, even atheist should be thankful for the contributions Christianity has made to our culture, and society.

I think the subject was misspelled. They meant to say, "blight."

Christianity: for people who just can't accept that when you die, you die. What happens when you step on an ant? It dies. It's gone...

Same thing for us humans. The notion that there is an afterlife is just as absurd as believing that there is an afterlife for the ant. It's a self-evident truth that when you crush an ant with your foot, that's the end for that ant. Given the fact that humans, as are ants, are a form of life, we ultimately share the same fate. Living things die...

I'm not saying I'm happy about this fact. It sucks. It's depressing. But it's true.

Christianity might be good in that it inspires people to live a meaningful life and to help others. But that is it. There is not the slightest shred of truth in its doctrine.

It's the other way around - whenever something starts to be recognized as a blessing, Christians will pipe up and claim it was actually their idea all along.

Slavery: God's will that those branded with the mark of Cain are subservient.
Abolition of slavery: God's will that all humans be free.

Monarchy: Kings rule by Divine Right, your position is where God put you, and you are heretical to question God's order.
Democracy: It is God's will that all be free to strive to reach their highest potential.

Creationism: God's Holy Scripture is divinely inspired and as such beyond dispute.
Science: By ttudying Nature and Nature's laws, we get closer to understanding God.

Male-only vote: Woman was created as Man's helpmate, ergo she should follow his lead.
Female suffrage: Woman was created as Man's helpmate, ergo she should help shoulder the responsibility.

Christianity has always been Really Good at maneuvering as the prevailing winds blow.
