Well that is what happens when we let corporations control the country's farms and make it harder for family farm to run. It is also hard to find anyone that is willing to work below minimum wage in the fields anymore, which is why they often times have to be imported.
Though this is another example of things we should be spending money to crack down on rather than beefing up our military. If our farming industry was forced to pay a more living wage, those jobs would have a better chance of going to Americans. Unfortunately I have yet to really see anyone in politics care about this issue.
No that is what happens when you let millions of criminals, oh sorry, "undocumented immigrants" into the country. If there weren't people willing to work for minimum wage or less then they'd pay more. Supply and demand works for labor just as it does for goods.

One way to force them to pay a "livable" wage is to not have immigration to start with.
Somehow I see wages magically rising to get workers needed to pick crops.
And no the "farmers" will not just stop planting.
Our immigration system is exploitation of foreigners and just screwing American workers.

Having immigration isn't the issue. The way our current laws are set up allows them to pay below minimum wage, and it also doesn't punish them for any illegal practices. If you go after the employers, you change how the system is run. Unfortunately our farming industry is run by crony capitalism with deep pockets for politicians to fit into, thus many of them in Congress would fight against any of these changes.

You might want to read up on the H2 visa programs.
It also includes NON FARM jobs, unskilled.
H2A is agriculture
H2B is any job
This is what I posted yesterday in the Ryan plan thread.
The H2-B are non farm no skill jobs. The cap has been lifted...to infinity and beyond.
Gee, yesterday you were chiding me over this and today you blame corporations.
What happened in 24 hours..change your mind ?
You laughed me off yesterday with "billions of foreign workers are coming here to take your job".
Well they have been for some time.
As I said yesterday..the foreign folks got most of the jobs during this recovery, not US citizens.
...this should **** you off regardless of party affiliation.
Both parties are corrupt and guilty of selling out the American people.
We have more foreigners, refugees, Dreamies as well as illegals all grabbing the unskilled jobs.
Our kids can't even find their first jobs anymore because adults are all doing them.
Ultimately it's Congress that allows this to happen. And this latest spending bill that both sides "agree" on will make it worse.
Dems got a blank check for refugees, dreamies and funding for sanctuary cities.
Repubs got unlimited H2B visas.
Both sides got their pork and neither side considered the impact of their pork on US citizens.
Neither party cares about you or me. All they care about is that we continue to send our money to them every April. That's all they care about.
And until people wake up and see that neither party has their best interest in mind nothing will change and it will only get worse in America for the citizens.

There seems to be an inconsistency within the linked article.
The article refers to the H2b visa program and the impact on those employed in agriculture including a picture of cotton.
The H2b visa is designated for non- agriculture seasonal workers. The most common job is landscaping.
Seafood harvesting and summer and ski resort housekeeping work also make substantial use of the H2b visa.
Some states have established Minimum Wage for holders of H2b visas and some have not.
Texas, Virginia, Georgia, Florida, Maryland, Colorado, North Carolina Mass. and Loisiana have the majority of H2b visas.
Likely employers have more leverage over and get a better bang for the buck by hiring H2b visa workers than US workers.
With the exception of Bernie and maybe Rand Paul who has no chance, all 2016 candidates are in favor of increasing the number of H1 and H2 B visas. It's as non partisan as it gets and is another factor that demonstrates there is little difference between career and non career politicians.

Teen employment is a regional issue.
There has been an acute shortage of people interested in retail and fast food services jobs in my neck of the woods and that includes adjacent communities with substantial poor Hispanic populations.
Most of these jobs are paying $9-12/ hr, substantially higher than state Minimum Wage.
This is not a seasonal shortage.
It's mind boggling that most teens have no interest in these jobs.
