Americans do a reasonable amount of overseas travel and show a decent amount of interest in foreign countries, considering that United States is geographically isolated compared to countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Middle East.

Schools used to teach world history, geography and more about other countries.

Now it seems that they have to spend all their time teaching kids to read, write and do arithmetic.

It's too bad. But that's the way it is.

There are a lot of poor people in this country (many of them both legal and illegal immigrants), and lots of kids in school who do not speak English as their primary language.

Just getting them through the basics is hard enough, never mind teaching them foreign languages and financing semesters or years abroad in foreign countries.

If being cosmopolitan is the test for leadership, Europe is well qualified.

But, thanks to two world wars started in Europe, they lost that leadership opportunity.

Non-starter.. This is why we have subject-matter experts, and specialization.

No they don't have global responsibilities. That's just a media buzzword.
They have responsibilities to their constituents, period. The more they stay out of the "global" garbage the better it is for everyone concerned. They've run this country into the ground with their controlling big government agendas and you want them to get involved with the rest of the world? What do you have against mankind?
