The math still doesn't work for me.
10,000 lost jobs/154 locations = 65 employees per Walmart Express corner store.
Walmart will look to close stores built before the current footprint of it's Super centers. They will reopen with new layout in a location not far from population centers. Watched it happen here about 8 years back. Old Walmart's are now Magic Marts a chain from Va and WVA.

All employees will be listed as new and started at the lowest possible pay rate.

Wally's has been doing this for years. The vast majority of *******s never paid attention until their Masters told them to.

If a magic wand were to suddenly replace big box with small businesses would those small businesses pay more than the big box model?
Probably-and they'd even offer benefits. Wal Mart is a cancer that leeches off the US Government and exploits labor overseas-much like other huge nationless corporations whose stock value is somehow correlated with how low they can pay employees/how many American employees they can ditch/yet still sell to and how much they can avoid in taxes. Wal Mart often closes stores to bust labor unions in the making, or just to reopen another right after and hire new employees-all at the bare minimum, even if they are returning from a closed store. They are savages. They have the capabilities to temporarily lower prices to close out local competition/small business only to raise them right after they've succeeded in destroying them.

Families are smaller than they've ever been, yet it used to be that you could support and raise one with only one income. Globalization, fueled by nationless conglomerates like Wal Mart, has destroyed the American economy and Middle Class. Now it is like a snowball effect. We have allowed so much power to be given to detached corporations that do not share the same interests/goals as The United States or Americans.

Walmart is one of the biggest recipients of EBT cards.
Poor people ain't shopping online at other places.

Companies all over are shuttering stores if you've been keeping up with the news.

Inventory isn't moving in all areas.
Walmart is just the next guy on the block to do what others are already doing.

Here's a breakdown of which types of stores they are closing:

News from The Associated Press
Of the 154 store closures in the U.S., 102 of them are under the Wal-Mart Express name, which were opened as a test in 2011. Wal-Mart operates more than 4,500 stores in the U.S.

Wal-Mart Express marked the retailer's first entry into the convenience store arena. The stores sell essentials like toothpaste. But the concept never caught on as the stores served the same purpose as Wal-Mart's larger Neighborhood Markets: fill-in trips and prescription pickups.

Also covered in the closures are 23 Neighborhood Markets, 12 supercenters, seven stores in Puerto Rico, six discount stores and four Sam's Clubs.

They'll use every bit of this to their advantage and come out bigger and richer. They'll take the loss on the neighborhood stores as a write-off and open more super centers in marginal areas with 10 year tax abatements and new employees.
