Shawna Cox has said that when she climbed out of the vehicle, Finicum was lying on the snow with his hat and glasses on. If he had been shot from across the road, he would almost certainly have taken a shot to the head, which would have removed both.

As far as the nine bullet theory, the Finicums had a second autopsy done, and have been really quiet since then. It baffles me as to why they would keep such vital information a secret.

Either way, he fought the Law and the Law won, and nobody's happy but the worms. He should have put his hands above his head when so ordered.

Another conspiracy theory. Who says he was shot nine times? That's just a rumor.

He can see that it was a taser and not a gun? that's just bizarre...Heck let's go for broke, it was a 'false flag' Finicum was an FBI informer and he's still alive

Actually it is an interesting theory, at least the part about the taser. I wondered myself how/why the shooter shot at Lavoy with all the other officers in the line of fire. Plus, the part about his right hand going for his gun after operating the taser makes a lot of sense. Otherwise, what was he doing with that hand?

On the minus side, why would the other cops shoot him at that point? Doesn't make sense, unless they still felt threatened, and THAT is legit justification in my mind. Even if the cops jumped the gun (so to speak), it was still suicide by cop.

Both of you made good points. The Oregon occupiers and their supporters self-identify as conservative white Christians and they seem to think they speak for that demographic. In that regard, as in every other, they are of course deluded.
They made it clear in this endeavor that it was about much more than grazing rights. The quote should more accurately say "who, bitter because they believe white Christian conservatives don't get the social deference they believe they deserve ...".

I don't think they were in the line of fire, but here's the deal. If Finicum had kept his hands up he would be alive today. end of story.

The militants battle cry is "No more Wacos!"
Their problem is they didn't pay any attention after Waco. The FBI learned from Waco and Ruby Ridge, and used the same patience they showed at the Malheur Bird Refuge many times before to capture people like the Bundys ever since.

Ironically, the militants have only prepared for another Waco. It fits their fantasies of being the last noble defenders of freedom to a T. It's a stand up and be a martyr thing. Sounds good on the internet, but not so hot when reality freezes their butts off on the chilly sagebrush steppes of the west.

One reason why they all came so ill prepared was they thought the firefight would commence shortly.

They still think that way. Prison time will change a lot of that, as will their inability to own a gun forever afterwards. Convicted felons cannot own guns legally. That's another felony in itself if caught with a gun.

Federal crimes have no parole.
