Look around, what do you have other than a mortgage that it takes now 30-40 yrs to pay, a car that you now get to pay 5-7 yrs of payments to drive, and your kids get strapped with education debt in the 10's of thousand for claims about jobs that don't exist.
There is and has never been a reason one can pay for a deprecating asset such a car in 5-7 yrs, but it takes 30 yrs to pay the same 40-50-60-100k for a house. It makes about as much sense as nothing, but people buy the game and the game continues, guaranteeing that you will not get beyond being of and a member of the service class.
When equity was elevated, they suckered people to borrow, and now they ended up many upside down in a home they once thought they could own.
