Anyone who thinks a new justice has more than a snow balls chance in hell of getting appointed until after the elections is smoking crack.
Its just not going to happen.
If it was a dem controlled congress and a rep president the outcome would be the same.
Neither party is going to let a lame duck pres from a different party appoint a justice. Not gonna happen.
Obama's quote about the constitution and it being bigger than our parties was laughable. I don't know how that guy says stuff like that with a straight face. I can't name a president since FDR who has done more to destroy the constitution than him.
LOL.
He knows he's lame and doesn't have a chance of getting a justice nominated. Any big liberals better hope he doesn't nominate someone that would normally stand a chance and make a good "liberal" judge. Anyone nominated by him will be a waste and won't be getting nominated by whomever takes Obama's place.
Well, now that I think about it. There is a chance it could happen. I mean most of the repubs in power now have sold their souls already so once more isn't gonna hurt them any more.
You hit the nail on the head. For a liberal, the ends justify the means. The constitution is living and breathing (read: non-existent) when it stands in the way of their agenda (which, by the way, is not good for the country). When they can use the constitution to justify their policy, they act like strict constitutionalists.
That said, when has Obama not gotten what he wanted out of the GOP Congress? I don't see him not being able to appoint the next SCOTUS nominee. He's not stupid: he can appoint someone who is female and/or non-white and let the media play the race/gender card on his behalf should the GOP not fold like a cheap suit.
The guy isn't even in the ground yet and you're the one salivating at the possibility of making the SC more to your liking. Pathetic.
Seems like the SC is good and just when it suits your agenda, and legislating from the bench when the SC doesn't agree with you. I wish people like you would make up your damn minds.
Are you surprised? You should have read the comments on news stories of Scalia's death. Liberals were openly trashing him and celebrating his death.
Sounds like you're giving liberals a lot more credit than they deserve.
We should let the constitution work. Obama should nominate a replacement and the Senate votes.
That would work if Obama actually honored his Presidential Oath of Office to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. He doesn't now, and didn't before he was elected POTUS (2001 WBEZ interview)
That is part of a Robert Bork quote. People study the decisions but few study the Federalist papers or the Constitutional Convention. Our Constitution has been severely damaged and we our one justice away from our property right, our 2nd Amendment rights and our 1st Amendment rights from being seriously curtailed. Too bad you are incapable of understanding this.
Our 4th and 6th Amendment Rights are seriously imperiled, as well.
This has not been a good time in history for our country. Biggest erosion of our Constitutional Rights in my lifetime.
No, I don't. But because that's how Dems play, they shouldn't be surprised that Rs will play it that way, as well.
