I'm surprised to see there are still a couple of oogo-philes left to defend this nonsense.
this is an example of horribly run, strong-armed socialism run amok. a good comparison is Norway, who is also pretty socialist by US standards, and who also makes a ton of their GNP thru oil. you don't see bread lines in Norway.
Extreme rightwingers like to conveniently "forget" about places like Norway though.
Having spent considerable time in Venezuela I can only say you are willfully blind or abysmally ignorant. The alternative is that you are simply fabricating to defend your ideology. It is all about socialism. Socialism actually wrecked their oil industry even before the price drop so your argument doesn't hold even an ounce of water.
It's socialism all right, but socialism enforced by fist and gunpoint. Gangs of thugs called Tupamaros (nominally on the left) and colectivos (nominally on the right) enforce security, especially in the big cities. None of them could exist without the direct support of the government and indirect support of the military. Venezuela is totally effed.
Yet liberal states are the most prosperous in the nation. Conservative states the most poor.
Go figure.
Since it costs more to live in dense blue areas, average incomes are higher. Adjusted for COL, people in Mississippi have more disposable income than those in California. After the adjustment, the states with the highest disposable incomes are in the Great Plains and lower New England. Residents of NY, NJ, CA, OR, WA, WI, MN and IL on average have less disposable income than those in Kansas.
Aside from the fact that Haiti itself is a deeply unequal society (Haiti’s richest 1% own nearly half of the country’s wealth), the stability of world-markets depends on countries like Haiti remaining poor.
To paraphrase Hobbes, socialism to a wingnut is central planning misliked. Crony capitalism to a ******* is also central planning misliked.
Is it that some people are on a payroll to propagate this stupidity or are people really this dumb?
Competition can either be extinguished by a socialist government that stifles competition and installs self serving bureaucrats, or private interests can form a monopoly, where again no competition is allowed to exists through control of the markets and the politicians who grant the monopoly privileges. So for every Venezuela there is a Haiti. One either has da guberment monopoly or there is a monopoly that installs da gubement ...or we have the 19th century US with a division of powers and individual states that promotes competition....So why not pick option 3 instead of liberal and conservatives goons squads who only mislike one form of da guberment central planning?

You can't get any bluer than Rhode Island and Connecticut.
Too bad I can't blink my eyes and transport all you whining, ungrateful leftists to Venezuela for a 5-year experience.
Maybe then you'd see how stupid you seem to others.
Let's get those ungrateful Bundy's and Don't-Tread-On-Me's down there as well. Or are you making a distinction between those who are whining and ungrateful?

I guess it is left-wingers who like places where everyone's white. It does make for more prosperous nations.
